Finals:

Matt Bentley vs. Galan Ramirez
There was a :20 break between the Bentley/Allen match.
Bentley was suffering from what appeared a slight concussion from a vicious kick from Allen. There was talk of a forfeit due to this injury, but Bentley argued to move on to the next round. Very good technical match up for the first :10. Bentley went to turn on the pressure a bit and Ramirez responded. Bentley caught Ramirez with the Superkick, but Ramirez was too close to the ropes. Bentley argued with the ref about the 3 count. In doing so, Ramirez was able to roll him up for the quick 1,2,3.

D-Lo Brown Clinic

SCW is proud to present a wrestling clinic with D-Lo Brown. This clinic is open to any wrestler, from top to bottom. It is Saturday, July 11th at 11:00 am and runs till 2:00 pm. It will be held at Skylor's Skateland in Devine Texas. The first half of the clinic will be a set up of 6-8 minute matches for established workers to help evaluate their performance. New students will show what they know so far. The second half will be a Q 'n' A session. D-Lo has worked for WWE, TNA, ALL-JAPAN, NOAH, and is currently working for Ring of Honor. He has traveled the world and has a lot of knowledge of the business. I encourage everyone to pick his mind, cause you never know what little piece of advice may help us get to where we want to go.

We wanted to schedule this on a day where SCW was not having a show, We feel this would allow more guys to attend and after the clinic they would be able to go to their respective promotions to work. I would also ask that other promoters in the area, if they had the chance, to come by and see who is working to improve so we can all offer better shows to the wrestling fans. This clinic does not represent any brand but only the whole wrestling community.

If you are interested please contact SCW - scwsh1@yahoo.com or

Turn the Mics off! Part 2.

Turn the Mics Off! Part 2

Three and a half years ago, when I started the San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene blog, I did so for 2 primary reasons. First of all, I wanted to provide a source of information to wrestling fans who were looking for upcoming wrestling shows in San Antonio. Secondly, I wanted to acknowledge the wrestlers who risk their health in the ring to entertain the fans. At no time did I intend to do the job of wrestling promoter.

During that time, I estimate that I have attended about 300 wrestling shows, witnessed about 2000 matches and seen about 500 wrestlers perform. Not all of those wrestler, matches and shows were great, but I have striven to present the information in as positive a light as possible.

Last week I published a blog in which I called for promoters to put an end to the practice of having announcers give live play-by-play commentary over the speakers during matches. In that blog I mentioned that I have never seen a great show which incorporated live play-by-play.

Today I went to a show which, although not great, might have been decent if it hadn't been for the live play-by-play. During the show I came to a conclusion. I won't be back. Furthermore, I won't be attending shows that I know to use live play-by-play. If I cannot enjoy a wrestling show, I'm not going to go.

If I attend a show and discover, after arriving, that they have chosen to us play-by-play, that will be the last show for that promotion I attend until such time that I am assured the practice will cease.

I will continue to accept results from these shows to publish on the www.saindywrestlingscene.com webpage. I will continue to accept announcements of upcoming shows and include those dates on my calendar. I just won't go to those shows.

I suppose this could result in the end of the San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene as it currently exists, but I can live with that. I think I have been successful in my original goals and I truley believe what I have done is no longer as neccessary as it was three and a half years ago.

I take no credit for the rise of wrestling in San Antonio during that time period. I do feel that I have provided a worthwhile resource to the San Antonio wrestling community and hope that I will continue to be able to contribute. Now, however I believe it is time to refocus my efforts.

The following shows in the San Antonio area, I know do not use live play-by-play:
Anarchy Championship Wrestling
River City Wrestling
Southern Championship Wrestling
Texas Wrestling Entertainment

I will attend as many of those shows as schedule allows. Also, Warriors 4 Christ has gone back and forth on this issue. I will attend their shows as long as they do not use the live play-by-play. If they start using it again, I will stop attending.

I regret that there are wrestlers whom I have enjoyed watching who do not work on these shows and I will not be able to see them work until circumstances change. Perhaps these wrestlers will help encourage promoters to make the change.

Any other area promotions which do not use play-by-play are encouraged to contact me so that I may add them to the list of promotions which I can be comfortable attending.

Thank you for your support now and during the last 3 and a half years.

Turn the Mics off!

and let them wrestle!

Live play by play or commentary during matches of indy wrestling shows is one of the most annoying aspects of attending live events. I have attended hundreds of shows during the last 3 and a half years and can honestly say that I have never attended a GREAT Wrestling show that used live pbp. It interferes with the fan interactions with the wrestler. It insults the intelligence of the fans, the wrestlers and especially the referees who must not only be blind to miss what is going on behind them, but must also be deaf if they cannot hear the house mics. Live commentators rarely understand what is being planned for the future so they cannot focus on the proper aspects of the in-ring action. Additionally they often are just plain wrong, calling hip-tosses arm-drags and such. Let's face it, anyone expected to talk continuously for over two hours straight is going to say something stupid. When fans hear the same thing every show, they tend to lose interest at best and get truly annoyed at worst.

I strongly encourage all indy wrestling promotions to put an end to live Play-by-Play or Commentary during the matches at their shows. I ask that workers make the suggestion at the shows they work with live pbp and encourage fans to let their feelings be known. If simple suggestions do not work, I would not object to chants of "Turn The Mics Off!"

Please join me in this battle and let the promoters know... You want to enjoy the wrestling without the amplified voice of a Play-by-Play announcer interfering with the match.

Thank you
