Final February Notes & Rankings

Indy Wrestling Thriving in San Antonio

February has been another great month for fans of independent wrestling. All three promotions put on shows. TWE brought in Indy Superstar Jared Steele who battled Jacob Ladder in his return match. RCW had an 8-team tag tournament to name new champions (The Nerdy Boys: Johnny Ender & Kris Kronie) and treated another standing room only crowd to an incredible heavyweight championship match between Champion Hotstuff Hernandez and Challenger Fast Eddie Vegas (an early match of the year conteder.) ACW had not one, but two tag title changes in about 45 minutes with the Ragin' Renegades regaining the belts from the newly formed team of Cobra and Vega.

March looks to be another great month too! TWE is bringing in legendary wrestler/trainer Al Snow to lead a day long workshop for professional wrestlers. The show that evening will be a can't miss event as San Antonio fans will most likely be treated to matches featuring wrestlers who have never performed in San Antonio before. RCW moves to a larger venue for this month's show and if the fans come along it'll be another loud and wild show. ACW has not yet announced a show for March, but watch their webpage for future details. If you go into wrestling withdrawal at the end of the month, the Texas Wrestling Federation will have a show in Luling on April 1st. I have never seen one of their shows but it's only about 90 minutes drive from San Antonio so it might be worth the trip.

February Rankings

It should be pointed out that these rankings are based on the number of matches wrestled in San Antonio during the month of February only. The importance of the matches on the card is included in the formula but not the quality of the actual wrestling. That is subjective matter and cannot be quantified. Nor is this ranking intended to imply that the wrestlers near the top are in any way better than those at the bottom other than their work rate in this city. Many of these wrestlers compete in promotions elsewhere in the US, several holding titles in those promotions. Any one wanting to know who is the BEST wrestler in San Antonio should go to the shows and watch the matches.

That being said, Congratulations to Kris Kronie and Johnny Ender who share the top point total on this months list. Three matches with three wins including a main event title match winning the Championship is an outstanding accomplishment.

ACW February 26th Show Notes

ACW Tag Titles Change Hands... Twice.

During the February 26th show at the Apollo Playhouse, the Tag Champions The Ragin' Renegades Johnny Rage & The Texas Renegade issued an open challenge to any team for their belts. Cobra and Vega came out and were able to win the belts in less than 5 minutes! Before the new champions had much time to celebrate they accepted a rematch challenge. This turned out to be a costly mistake as the former champions were able to regain their belts.

ACW Texas Champion Scott E. Charms challenged ACW Heavyweight Champion Prince Fontenot in a falls count anywhere match that lasted the entire show with the pair of combatants fighting their way in and out of the ring, interferring with several other matches that were able to start and finish during the prolonged battle which spilled out onto West Avenue and into the dressing room. Somehow, the fashion plate Charms was able to sport 4 different outfits during the fight. Take that for what it's worth. Champion Prince was finally able to catch the challenger and make the pin, retaining his title yet again.

RCW NEWS & NOTES

Nerdy Boys Win New Tag Team Titles!

The Nerdy Boys, Johnny Ender & Kris Kronie came out victorious in an 8 team tournament to name the newly created River City Wrestling Tag Team Championship February 25th at the Hope of Glory Church on a night that presented an outstanding card of wrestling. The Nerds beat Joseph & Logan Hallowmass, The Natural Athletes Hector Montoya & One Man Mike Dell and the Texas Treats Don Juan & Chris Marvel all in one night to earn the championship. Other teams competing in the Tournament were The Pretty Boys Aguila Negro & Rudy Russo, The Hardbodies Andrew Dalton & J.T. LaMotta, Spiro & Little Chico and the team of Abel COrtez & Slam Shady. Three other matches took place including Quinten Allen vs. Masada, Ikaika vs. Slam Shady and the co-Main Event Heavyweight Champion Hotstuff Hernandez defending against Fast Eddie Vegas in what may be considered the first "Match of the Year" contender thus far in 2006. Congratulations Kris & Johnny!

Next Event Announced

The next River City Wrestling event has been announced for Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the YWCA at 503 Castroville Rd. This is a larger facility than the Hope of Glory Church which has been Standing Room Only since RCW moved in. The February RCW event had 200 paying fans overflowing the room, so it might be a good idea to take advantage of RCW's advance ticket program available through their webpage www.rcw-wrestling.com

Two matches have already been announced for the event. Ikaika will be meeting a mystery opponent selected by Aguila Negro in a Hardcore Streetfight with the stipulation that if Ikaika wins, he will get 5 minutes with Aguila Negro. After the Title match on February 25th, Homeless Hugh Rogue jumped into the ring and assaulted worn-out Champion Hotstuff Hernandez with a steel chair. Rogue then challenged Hernandez to a hardcore match at the next show. Hernandez accepted the match.

RCW Arena on the way

RCW owner Brandon Oliver announced that later this year, the RCW Arena would be opening. No further details were given other than that RCW would continue to run events at the Hope of Glory Church in addition to those at the new location. When announcements are made, they'll be posted here.

Correction

TWE Update

It seems the previous post is in error. Despite the announcement made at the February 12th show, there will be no TWE show in San Antonio on February 26th. When the announcement was made, the TWE crew was already committed to participating in the Ricky Morton Invitational Tag Team Tournament in Tulsa Oklahoma.

There has been no announcement concerning a make-up date for the tag match between the team of Rudy Russo and Bigg Dogg against El Latino and an unnamed partner. Check the new TWE webpage for future announcements. www.texaswrestlingentertainment.com

TWE TV Title Champion Milano Collection AT was a no-show for the card. Jacob Ladder made his return to TWE, coming out and taking credit for injuring Milano Collection AT. The scheduled title match against Jared Steele was changed to a number 1 contenders match between Ladder and Steele. One other announced match did not take place. The three-way dance between Andrew Dalton, J.T. LaMotta and Super Nova Sean Cordova was not on the final card and none of those wrestlers appeared in the show.

Texas Wrestling Entertainment announced that next month's show will be March 11th at the Bellaire Baptist Church Gym @ 105 Clovis. "Top wrestlers from all over the state converge for a 1 day clinic with former MTV WWE TOUGH ENOUGH HEAD TRAINER and WWE Talent Scout Al Snow"
