2009 SA Indy Wrestling Scene Wrestler of the Year Balloting
2009 SA Indy Wrestling Scene Wrestler of The Year
The time is upon us to select the wrestler of the year for 2009. Unlike previous years, this year eligibility is open to wrestlers who have worked shows anywhere in the 210, 512 or 830 area codes. (WWE shows do not count. It says Indy Wrestling.) Anyone is eligible to vote once. Duplicate ballots will be eliminated as will any apparent attempts to take advantage of the voting.
Vote for up to 50 wrestlers
List them in order with # 1 being your choice for best wrestler
Ties on your list will be ranked in the order you list them.
I must be able to confirm that the wrestlers named worked legitimate shows in the area. Backyard promotions do NOT qualify. If you feel there may be a question as to a wrestler’s eligibility, include details about the promotions or shows worked.
Vote only once. Duplicate ballots will be eliminated.
Attempts to sabotage or take advantage of the voting process will not only result in your ballot being excluded, the wrestlers named on the ballot will be exposed as “marks” who tried to steal the title by stuffing the ballot box.
Vote by sending a message to myspace.com/bluehatguy or by emailing bayou_926@hotmail.com (but not both)
Balloting will take place for the next 10 days and will end at 11:59 PM, Sunday January 10. The results will be announced on Monday January 11th.

2009 End of Year Awards
2009 End of Year Awards
San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene - End of Year Awards
As 2009 comes to an end I am completing my fourth year of publishing the San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene report, so it is once again time to look back on the year and recognize some of the greatness that was San Antonio Wrestling 2009. Last year’s awards were the most controversial so far and I regret that some award winners have failed to move forward over the next year. Remember however that with the exception of Wrestler of the Year (which is voted on by the readers of the Scene) these awards/recognition are all my own. In other words, these are the opinions of one fan. This year I have officially expanded the territory from Bexar County shows to any shows within the 210, 512 & 830 area codes so there were more promotions, more shows and more wrestlers to consider for every award. The results therefore will be more likely controversial. I invite discussion or even arguments and invite other fans to create their own avenues of recognition for the many wrestlers who have risked so much to entertain us all.
San Antonio Independent Wrestling
Scene 2009 Awards
Rookie of the Year: 2009 – Jacob Kilgore. It looked like this year the Rookie of the Year would be a non-wrestler; however Rene the Referee who started the year extremely strongly, and Joe Reinagel who showed a natural talent both seemed to disappear before the year passed. Jacob Kilgore however started the year impressively and continued to improve with every match through the end of the year.
2008 – “Lunar Eclipse” Junior Garza
2007 – Draven
2006 – No Award
Busiest Wrestler of the Year: 2009 – Lemus II (edit) Originally I had no winner, but upon review, it became obvious that no one worked more shows in the newly expanded area of the SA Indy Wrestling.
2008 – Cobra
2007 – Gabe "the Babe"
2006 – "One Man" Mike Dell
Lady Wrestler of the Year: 2009 – Portia Perez As much as I would like to have named a wrestler who lives in Texas the Lady Wrestler of the year, winning the ACW American Joshi Title while performing at such a high level made Portia the best choice. Other candidates included Rachel Summerlyn, Claudia Del Solis and Pink, but the choice remains the Canadian Ninja
2008 – Rachel Summerlyn
2007 – Rachel Summerlyn
2006 – Simply Luscious
Luchador of the Year: 2009 – SKAM-13. Easiest choice of the year. Winning the RCW Heavyweight Title clearly earned the Extreme Aztec the award as Luchadore of the Year.
2008 – Sicodelico Jr.
2007 – Mini Diablo
2006 – Mr. Muerte
Tag Team of the Year: 2009 – Scot Summers & Jerry Lynn Possibly the toughest choice of the year as the Texas Hitmen of Skitzo & Big Dogg were an explosive combination and will most likely dominate in 2010. Summers & Lynn however take the award by holding the ACW Tag Titles the entire calendar year.
2008 – The Sixth Street Sinners (Mr. Right & Gabe the Babe)
2007 – No Award
2006 – The Texas Treats (Don Juan & Chris Marval)
Referee of the Year: 2009 – Alex Marrozos. While Mike Knoxville & Rick Porter were absent from the scene for portions of the year, Marrozos was focused on his craft and was a center-point of much of what happened in RCW. Alfie Oliveras, Howie Rolle & John Pressley all helped to make local wrestling better. With this core of quality referees and several newcomers improving their own work, the outlook for local wrestling is very strong.
2008 – Mike Knoxville
2007 – Rick Porter
2006 – Alex Marrozos
Manager of the Year: 2009 – The Irresistible Danielle. In this new category, there were numerous people who were eligible, but in my mind only one manager deserved consideration. Danielle is so good at what she does that she is the only manager I would pay to bring in in addition to the talent she represents. The fact that her man John Saxon may be my favorite wrestler to watch doesn’t hurt her cause. Aside from what she does at the show, Danielle actually works behind the scenes to keep her talent (Saxon & Clarice) get booked on shows throughout the Gulf States region. Danielle just “gets it.”
2008 – No Award
Champion of the Year: 2009 – Scot Summers. Summers cemented this award with his performance at the 2009 Lone Star Classic by completing his Grand Slam of ACW titles. It’s hard to imagine what goals Summers has set for 2010. There were countless wrestlers who could have won this award this year. If you were to ask a dozen fans you could easily get a dozen different answers. Summers however is this fan’s choice.
2008 – Jimmy Jacobs
2007 – "Showtime" Scot Summers
2006 – Hotstuff Hernandez
Breakout Wrestler of the Year: 2009 – Texas Hitmen (Skitzo & Big Dogg). There were no obvious, no-argument candidates for the award this year. Team Smurf did well in establishing themselves throughout the state as more than a comedy act. Robert Evans and Matthew Palmer exploded onto the scene. Keith Lee and Jerome Daniels dominated on any show upon which they appeared. The Texas Hitmen earned the award by traveling many miles nationwide and stepping out from under a shadow and grabbing the spotlight for themselves.
2008 – (Tie) Brett Thunder & Rachel Summerlyn
2007 - JT LaMotta
2006 – "One Man" Mike Dell
Storyline of the Year: 2009 – The Rise and Fall of Reinagel Championship Wrestling. Joe Reinagel’s takeover of River City Wrestling dominated that promotion's shows throughout the year. Fans really found themselves caring about who was going to win. Joe Reinagel’s natural skill as a performer drove the story line at the beginning of the year; the talented roster of RCW carried the story to conclusion after Reinagel found his other responsibilities more pressing.
2008 – JT LaMotta vs. Jimmy Jacobs and members of Age of the Fall
2007 – The Texas Treats Break-Up.
2006 – TWE invades American Championship Wrestling
Match of the Year: 2009 – Spiro vs. John Saxon vs. Scot Summers (SCW #1 Contenders Triple Threat Match). Picking a “Best” match out of so many great matches during the year is extremely tough. This SCW match had the significance of pitting 3 former champions in a no DQ match to determine a challenger for Cowboy James Claxton’s Heavyweight Title. The match itself was filled with action, psychology & emotion and managed to transport the fans in attendance to that realm where we could forget everything we think we know. Every year there seems to be more contenders for this award
2008 – Brett Thunder vs. Kevin Douglas (J-Cup Finals)
2007 – Jerry Lynn vs. Showtime Summers (Lynn wins the IWA-Texas Title in 29:58.)
2006 – Children of Pain vs. Skitzo & Hector Navarro (Tables Match at When Worlds Collide)
Show of the Year: 2009 – ACW’s American Joshi Queen of Queens Tournament. It would have been so easy to pick the Lone Star Classic again as the show of the year. The Queen of Queens show was just too much fun for me personally to ignore. From the pre-show matches to the main event every wrestler involved knew they were part of something special and the fans in attendance showed their appreciation. This show changed Texas wrestling for the better, proving that the women could deliver so much more than that for which they had previously been given credit.
2008 – ACW’s Lone Star Classic ’08
2007 – ACW's Lone Star Classic '07
2006 – TWE's When Worlds Collide
Promotion of the Year: 2009 – Anarchy Championship Wrestling. ACW gave me no reason not to consider them for this award. Every show was outstanding. The fan base in Austin adds to the party atmosphere. ACW has clearly established their place at the top of Texas wrestling and continue to set their sights higher. If this award was just San Antonio and Bexar County, RCW would have been the choice, but with the expanded territory, ACW takes the prize.
2008 – Warriors 4 Christ Wrestling.
2007 – Anarchy Championship Wrestling
2006 – River City Wrestling
And Finally,
The Wrestler of the Year
will be voted on by the readers of The San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene. Details will be announced later today.

ACW "Delusions of our Childish Days" Results
Anarchy Championship Wrestling
"Delusions of our Childish Days"
Austin Mohawk
Sunday December 20, 2009
Opening match: Alex Reign beat "The Nightmare"/"Samurai Homeboy" Nick Guidrey.
Internet Exclusive Match: Rachel Summerlyn & Jessica James beat Erin Starr & Athena.
Davey Vega (surprise entry) won a five-way match against Court Caution, Chris Preston, Brent Masters, and Skylar Skelly.
J.T. LaMotta announced that his mystery partner for later would be a "former ACW champion", and Scot Summers came out. Then Mike Dell and The Takeover came out, and Dell annouced that HIS mystery partner would be Summers; to Summers's surprise and offending Spiro, who expected to be picked. Jimmy Jacobs hits the ring, and announces that indeed LaMotta's partner WOULD be a former champion - Jimmy Jacobs. Dell explained to Spiro this was part of a "master plan".
Robert Evans discussed Portia Perez being unavailable, saying he wanted to make it a "one on one" match. Darin Childs eagerly accepted, but Evans said it would be "one on one" with Rachel, as Evans believes he is the true "Strong Style Diva". After some angry words with botrh Darin and Evans over the tag match in October, Rachel accepted.
Battle Of The Smurfs: Chingo defeated Breeze and Bravo, with all celebrating at the end.
ACH defeats Biohazard. Garza interfered, without ACH's consent. ACH and Bio shook hands after the match.
Spiro defeated Jiggalo James Johnson in a major beatdown.
Garza defeated Khris Wolfe in a bloody death match. After the match, Bio returned and took violent revenge on Garza, slamming him on a table covered with barbed wire, with Garza's barbed wire crucifix on the table. Bio did this with the obvious aid...of the referee.
Intermission.
The Lost Boys & Poison beat Willie, Bubba, & Lillie Mae. Poison pinned Mae, then gave her the Poison Kiss.
Matthew Palmer vs Shawn Vexx - Match thrown out by referee, after Mike Dell took a chair to Palmer's wrist and ankle when Palmer refused to do the same to Vexx.
Robert Evans vs. Rachel Summerlyn - Evans wins a wild match that had the crowd chanting loudly for both wrestlers. Excellent performance from both, and the match of the night.
Mystery Partner Match - Dell's "master plan" results in him taking a beating from three guys, as Jacobs did nothing to help him in the match. Dell takes the pin and loses, followed by an angry Robert Evans and Spiro taking down Showtime, Spiro telling Dell off, and them leaving the ring. With Showtime down, Dell offers him an impromptu title match. With no referee in the ring Dell takes advantage of Summers for a bit, then retreats when the referee returns, saying he was "joking". Darin Childs confronts Dell, telling him he must go through with the match.
IMPROMPTU TITLE MATCH: Mike Dell defeats Showtime Summers, with help from Jimmy Jacobs (Takeover banned from ringside, and didn't appear in a mood to help Dell anyway).
Opinions & notes:
Crowd was very into the show. ACW didn't disappoint, even with the loss of Portia from the card.
Ring announcer was Mike Knoxville, who introduced a new, female referee, Amanda. Both did an excellent job, although I felt Amanda didn't get the appreciation she deserved. Amanda made no questionable calls as far as I was concerned, and showed no sign of bias for or against any wrestlers.
Robert Evans had the U-30 belt the whole night, which was never explained.
In what I thought was a stunning example of selective rules enforcement, Court Caution was "disqualified" (in an ACW match) in the five-way, resulting in a chant of "Bulls__t!" from the crowd. ACH accompanied Caution during the match, and as they walked past I heard ACH mention something about "The NAACP". Personally, I hope this IS addressed at one of the next shows. Perhaps ACH/Cauition could solicit the help of a renowned civil rights advocate, like Robert Evans. ;D
Junior Garza continues to show no sign of backdown from anyone in ACW.
Chingo was impressive.
I hope to see Athena in ACW again in the future. She has a great look, lots of attitude, and excellent presence. Would like to see her in singles action, to see more of her wrestling ability.
Lady Poison is the dark horse who could dominate the Joshi division.
Davey Vega seemed to think that winning the five-way U-30 preliminary puts him in line for Joshi contention (? ::))
Is The Takeover finished? Appears that Palmer may be out at least, with Spiro being clearly alienated (I even heard him arguing with Dell about it during intermission at the merchandise table). Choosing Jacobs over his team would be very risky for One Man, in my opinion.
Showtime performs best when people are rooting against him.
