End of Month Thoughts and Rankings

As recently as one year ago, the San Antonio wrestling landscape was pretty barren. Several promotions had shut down, leaving only ETW to put on small shows in front of only a couple dozen avid fans. This last month is indicative of the phenomenal growth seen in one year’s time.

During April, the San Antonio area (including Devine, Texas) saw 5 different promotions present 8 wrestling cards. In all, 65 different wrestlers competed in the 46 matches at the 8 shows. Congratulations should go out to all the wrestlers as well as the Promoters for making April the most successful wrestling in San Antonio in recent memory. Hundreds, probably even thousands of fans enjoyed the product of your efforts.

Local Wrestlers achieved national success as RCW Champion Hotstuff Hernandez returned to TNA TV as a member of the LAX and TWE TV Champion Milano Collection AT made it to the Semi-Finals of the prestigious ECWA Super 8 Tournament.

New Champions were crowned during the month. Darin Childs (technically in March) won the ACW Texas Title. Child’s partner Jacob Ladder won the AWE Heavyweight Championship. PWE named two new singles champions in one night. Mad Dog Ken Johnson is the new Heavyweight Champion and Ricky Rhodes the new US Champion. Johnny Rage won the Southern Thunder Heavyweight Title in his hometown of Devine. TWE filled their vacant Tag Titles with the team of Hector Navarro and Skitzo, despite the fact that Brett Thunder started the match as Skitzo’s partner instead of Navarro.

Perhaps the biggest news of the month is the announcement by River City Wrestling that TNA’s Latin American Xchange (LAX) – Konnan, Homicide & Hotstuff Hernandez, will be headlining a show in May. With 8 different cards scheduled for May, the month may actually surpass April for San Antonio fans.

Rudy Russo Wrestler of the Month

With matches on four of the cards presented in San Antonio during the month, not counting his match in Devine (matches outside the city limits do not count in these rankings,) “Mr. Beautiful” Rudy Russo is the wrestler of the month for April. Rudy’s 13 points barely beat Mad Dog Ken Johnson who earned 12 points for his two matches in which he won and successfully defended the PWE Heavyweight Title.
Russo’s work ethic is well known throughout Texas and he is respected for his willingness to travel anywhere for a fight. Although not the biggest competitor on the card, he is probably the most memorable in his ability to get a reaction from the crowd the moment he walks through the curtain. Congratulations Rudy…. Beautiful!

NWA-TNA's LAX comes to San Antonio to face three members of The International Power Station
Konnan, Homicide, and RCW's current Champion Hotstuff Hernandez unite in the "300-pound Tex-Mex T-Rex's" fight against three members of the International Power Station (aka The Texas Treats) -- Fast Eddie Vegas, Chris Marval, and Spiro, managed by Commissioner Yebisu.

Nowhere to Run
"The Smashing Machine" Ikaika vs. Don Juan of the IPS
On April 22, Don Juan scored a pinfall victory over his mentor Ikaika, but it took Ikaika going through a gauntlet of three other guys in order to do it. This time, Don Juan has to face Ikaika one-on-one.

RCW Tag Team Championship
champions The Nerdy Boys (Johnny Ender & Kris Kronie) defend against The Hardbodies (J.T. Lamotta & Andrew Dalton)
Kronie is coming off an injury, but made a triumphant return against Don Juan on April 22. Johnny Ender was originally the number 1 contender to the RCW Title, but lost that right to Fast Eddie Vegas. Now unified, the champs must face the number 1 contenders, The Hardbodies, whose antics are certainly questionable to say the least.

Plus, "One Man" Mike Dell, Quinten Allen, Martin Styles, Showtime Summers and much more!

Results from April 22

TEXAS
SAN ANTONIO—River City Wrestling before 135 fans at Arts of the Scholar Warrior Gym for “Step Into Our World”:
Showtime Summers pinned Martin Styles in an “Anything Goes Match” ...
Chris Marval of the Texas Treats (w/ Commissioner Yebisu) pinned Spiro ...
Don Juan of the Texas Treats (w/ Commissioner Yebisu) pinned Kris Kronie of the Nerdy Boys ...
The Hardbodies (Andrew Dalton & J.T. Lamotta) defeated Azteca de Oro & Rayo de Plata ...
“One Man” Mike Dell pinned Quinten Allen ...
Fast Eddie Vegas of the Texas Treats (w/ Commissioner Yebisu) defeated Johnny Ender of the Nerdy Boys in a #1 Contender’s Match …
Ikaika won a Gauntlet over “Mr. Beautiful” Rudy Russo, Nathan Sin, and Tesla, but then lost to Don Juan..(04-22-06)

The event was an outstanding success, considering that the event was held in a new location in a different part of town with less than two weeks of promoting. Arts of the Scholar Warrior Gym is where the athletes of RCW train, and fans were invited to “Step Into Our World.” Although the temperature was hot, so was the action.

In an interesting turn of events, The Treats Treats gained a new member, and a new name. Now known as The International Power Station, Commissioner Yebisu has assembled a group of talented athletes – Fast Eddie Vegas, Don Juan, Chris Marval, and Spiro. Spiro joined the group by attacking “The Smashing Machine” Ikaika as Ikaika was wrestling Don Juan in a Gauntlet Match. Though Spiro lost earlier to Marval, he helped his newfound friend gain a victory.

Though Spiro did not say why he joined The IPS at “Step Into Our World,” Spiro was later quoted as saying, “I never received any title shots. When I did have my shot at Hernandez, the match never took place because of a couple of punks and I never received another opportunity. Then in the Tag Title Tournament, my tag team partner caused us to lose in the first round. Then, in the Fan Lumberjack Strap Match, the fans were SUPPOSED to be on my side. I’m tired of everyone else’s problems getting in my way of winning championships. So I’ve surrounded myself with the best. Now ‘The Classic Superstar’ is unstoppable with the IPS.”

In other news, Fast Eddie Vegas regained his Number One Contender status to the RCW Championship. Johnny Ender won that right at the April 1 show in an impromptu Battle Royal, but Vegas defeated Ender on April 22 to once again become the Number One Contender. Thus far, Vegas has had two opportunities at the title. Will it be a third strike for Vegas?

“I have Hotstuff’s number,” Vegas said. “He’s been lucky twice. Soon, I will be the sexiest champion RCW has ever had.”

Don Juan also had an interesting night. Despite the return of RCW Tag Team Champion Kris Kronie, The Texas Treat was able to defeat The Nerdy Boy in a comeback match. After the match, Don Juan got into a heated confrontation with RCW Promoter Brandon Oliver, leading Don Juan into knocking out Oliver. Later in the night, Don Juan defeated Ikaika … after Ikaika wrestled three other men. This prompted Oliver to make a match one-on-one for May 7.

“I’m the only man to ever pin Ikaika,” Don Juan said. “The student has surpassed the teacher.”

After making that match, Oliver announced that RCW will be bringing down the other two members of LAX – Homicide and Konnan – to face Vegas, Marval, and Spiro on May 7.

“After Don Juan attacked me, I called up Hotstuff Hernandez and asked him to get a hold of Konnan and Homicide,” Oliver said. “Tonight was the night of the Texas Treats, IPS, Irritable Bowl Syndrome, whatever they want to call themselves. However, I think May 7 will be different when they have to face TNA’s Latin American Xchange.”
You can buy tickets for May 7 at the Tiffany’s office, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Call (210) 842-8398 in advance or visit http://www.rcw-wrestling.com.

Weekend Report - Part 2

PWE News & Results

A fourth wrestling promotion in the San Antonio area has come to my attention. Pro Wrestling Entertainment (PWE) presented 2 cards of matches this last weekend at Jac's Lounge on San Pedro in conjunction with music shows. Thank you to several individuals for details of the events: Frances, Gabe, Tito & Roland all provided information.

On Friday, Bull Harley of the Hooligans faced Rumble, defeating him with the outside interference of partner Crazy Jimmy and manager Hustler. Tommy Gunn dropped the US Title to Ricky Rhodes. In the third match, the Hooligans returned to battle Rumble & Convict, once again coming out victorious. The Main Event was a Triple Threat Match for the PWE Heavyweight Championship. Champion Ryu faced the challenge of both Mad Dog Ken Johnson and Mojo. In the End Mad Dog not only won the Belt, but also was able to get 5 minutes in the ring with Hustler who had interfered in every match that evening. Following the card, the crowd was treated to a performance from Rick Sanford from Legs Diamond fame.

Saturday's matches started off with a rematch for the US Title with challenger Tommy Gunn and champion Ricky Rhodes fighting to a double disqualification. Cruiserweights Dragon X and Raiden of the Neon World Order battled next with the masked Dragon X taking the victory. In the third match, Tito Sanchez scored the pin on the unorthodox Ozzy Manson. The Hooligans - Crazy Jimmy and Bull Harley defeated the team of Berry (of the Neon World Order) and Mojo. Mad Dog Ken Johnson successfully defended his newly won PWE World Title against Ryu. In the Main Event Vega managed to pull out a victory over Virus.

Pro Wrestling Entertainment continues its tradition of providing wrestling action to accompany music events when it joins the Metal Fest at Graham Central Station on May 18th. The music is scheduled to start at 7 pm with the matches starting around 8 pm.

Weekend Report - Part 1

Friday, April 21

Southern Thunder Pro Wrestling in Devine

Pro Wrestling came to Devine Texas as Southern Thunder Pro Wrestling put on a show at Ric's South Texas at 603 Hondo (Hwy 173) Friday night. Six entertaining matches featured several wrestlers familiar to San Antonio fans and several others new to the area. Among the highlights were the return of Lemus II following his tour of duty in Operation Enduring Freedom, a six-man cruiserweight elimination match won by Dragon X, and new Texas Heavyweight Champion in Devine native Johnny Rage.

In the first match, Lemus II faced Ozzy Manson. Lemus II was unable to win either the fan support or the match as Ozzy Manson was able to pull out the victory over the veteran (literally) luchador. In match two, Quinten Allen was able to overcome the unconventional style of Blaine Steele for the win. The third match was for the Southern Thunder Cruiserweight Invitational Trophy. Dragon X was able to outlast a field of five other wrestlers including Gato Jr., Rolando Rios, Berry of the Neon World Order, Mr. B and Raiden of the Neon World Order. This match was fast paced and included countless high spots which thrilled the local crowd.

Following the intermission, The Classic Superstar Spiro faced Vega in a very hard hitting match. Vega put up a good fight, but in the end Spiro was able to grab the victory. Former tag partners Rudy Russo and El Latino continued their feud in a special match set up by Commissioner Stan Callahan of Indywarz Radio fame. (www.indywarzradio.com) Rudy Russo cheated throughout the match, bringing a foreign object into the ring which Referee Shawn O'Malley Brown (S.O.B.) was unable to find despite a rather strange shaped lump which moved around Russo's tights. El Latino was finally able to wrestle the weapon away from Russo, but at that moment the referee was distracted. Russo took the opportunity to take a page from the Eddie Guerrero playbook and fell to the mat grabbing his face, when Brown turned around he found El Latino with the weapon and Russo writhing on the mat in pain. When Brown called for the bell, disqualifying the bewildered El Latino, Russo scurried rapidly from the ring, grabbing his mirror and boa on the way.

The Main Event was for the Southern Thunder Texas Heavyweight Belt and was fought under no disqualification rules. Champion Tito Sanchez took full advantage of this provision, bringing a length of chain to the ring and using it to pound repeatedly on the head of challenger Johnny Rage who was performing for the honor of his hometown crowd. The fighting spilled out of the ring and into the crowd as both men used the chain to choke and to open up the heads of their opponent. In the end however, Johnny Rage was able to win the match and the title to the delight of the fans in attendance.

All in all, it was a solid evening of wrestling for the fans from the small town south of San Antonio who didn't feel the need to drive 50 miles to attend the opening night of Fiesta. Southern Thunder returns to Ric's (www.rics-online.com) Friday May 19th. San Antonio fans planning on attending should leave in time to make the 8 pm opening match.

River City Wrestling "Step into RCW's World"

I was unable to attend the entire card and will post detailed match synopses when they are made available by River City Wrestling. There were several newsworthy items revealed during the evening. The most significant is the details of 3 matches all ready scheduled for the May 7th show at Tiffany Billiards. Tag Champions The Nerdy Boys (Johnny Ender and Kris Kronie) will face the number one contenders The Hardbodies (Andrew Dalton and JT LaMotta.) The Hawaiian Smashing Machine Ikaika will face Don Juan of The Texas Treats. The Main Event will feature none other than TNA's Latin American Xchange (LAX) - Konnan, Homicide and RCW Champion Hotstuff Hernandez against the newly formed alliance of the "International Power Station" (IPS) - Texas Treats' Chris Marval, Fast Eddie Vegas & Spiro accompanied by their manager Commissioner Yebisu. This card promises to be a huge event. Expect the largest indoor crowd at a wrestling event in San Antonio thus far this year. Get your ticket early and arrive early to assure good seating. For more information check out the webpage - www.rcw-wrestling.com

In other RCW news coming from the show, Johnny Ender lost his #1 contender status to Fast Eddie Vegas, setting up a third match between Fast Eddie and Hotstuff Hernandez. This rivalry has been very contentious with Hernandez able to hold off the furious challenge thus far. Will the third time be the charm for Fast Eddie?

An upcoming event was also announced. River City Wrestling will be presenting matches at a car show at the Airport Convention Center (Broadway outside 410) on Sunday, May 28. The
bell time has not been announced but will be posted soon. This event is the day after RCW's return to The Hope of Glory Church on May 27th.

American Championship Wrestling New Champion Jacob Ladder

ACW returned to The Venue on 800 Lexington Sunday afternoon with their best show thus far this year. A rowdy crowd was treated to 6 very entertaining matches. Ring announcer Jeff Houston called the action and incited the crowd. Referees Jay Magnum and Shawn Brown shared the duty of controlling the wrestlers.

In the first match, New Texas Champion Darin Childs defended his belt for the first time in San Antonio since winning a Battle Royal last month in Kerrville to fill the vacated title which had recently been stripped from Scott E. Charms. Darin's challenger was One Man Mike Dell who had to deal with both Childs and his manager/fan/groupie/bride Rachel. Dell was up to the challenge as he gave the champion all he could handle, forcing the lovely but dangerous Rachel to interfere on behalf of her man. Dell picked up the victory but was denied the belt as titles do not change hands on a disqualification.

The next match featured Raiden of the Neon World Order and Dragon X. These two high flying cruiserweights thrilled the crowd with their high risk moves until Dragon X was able to hit the pin for the victory. The third match was for the #1 contendership to the Texas Heavyweight Championship and featured Cobra vs. Titan Quinten Allen. The two performed a classic match shaking hands before and after the bout. In the end it was Titan who scored the victory.

The next match was for the ACW Tag Team Championship. The champions, The Ragin' Renegades - Johnny Rage and The Texas Renegade faced the challenge of newly formed team of Virus and Vega. Although the challengers put up a great fight they were unable to overcome the double team tactics of the champions.

Following the intermission, the action started up again with a match featuring former tag team partners Tito Sanchez and El Latino. Sanchez did not seem to be too worried about the challenge of his former student and actually took a break mid-match to enjoy a snack of a banana and some bottled water. When the match continued the action went back and forth with both men holding an advantage. Latino could never seem to get the pin and Sanchez actually seemed to be toying with him when Tito's earlier actions came back to haunt him. Running full speed to slam into Latino, Sanchez slipped on the banana peel which El Latino had tossed onto the mat in the middle of the ring. El Latino took advantage of the stunned Sanchez and grabbed the 1-2-3.

In the main event, ACW Heavyweight Champion Prince ran into Jacob Ladder who seemed to be fighting with a renewed enthusiasm. Prince was clearly not used to fighting someone who could virtually match his power moves. Eventually however, the Champion grabbed control of the match, giving Ladder the pounding of a lifetime when from the back, Rachel Putski rushed to the ring. While the referee was distracted, Darin Childs ran in and tried to attack Prince. The Champion was able to avoid the attack, but the distraction gave Jacob Ladder the opportunity he needed. When Prince turned his attention back to the challenger, he was met with a huge ball of fire to his face. Ladder quickly grabbed the pin on the stunned Prince and won the Title. While Jacob Ladder celebrated with his Children of Pain partners, help from the back rushed to the aid of the injured former champion. In the span of 5 weeks, the Children of Pain were able to grab both singles titles in ACW. Only time will tell how long this domination of the titles will last.

ACW's next event at The Venue is scheduled for May 21st at 4 pm. Look for information on the webpage www.princefontenot.com/wrestle/index.htm

Card set for April 22 "Step Into Our World"

River City Wrestling will hold an event on Saturday, April 22, 6:30 p.m., at the Arts of the Scholar Warrior Gym, located at 1126 W. Hildebrand. Tickets are $5 in advance or at the door. Seating is limited so make sure you purchase in advance and get there early! For more information, visit http://www.rcw-wrestling.com or call (210) 842-8398.

The event is called "Step Into Our World." The gym is the training ground for RCW. The building will be gritty, the temperature will be hot, and the wrestling will be smash-mouth! The card is set!

A Battle to Determine a #1 ContenderJohnny Ender vs. Fast Eddie Vegas
Johnny Ender of the Nerdy Boys put his status as the #1 contender to the RCW Championship on the line against the newest member of the Texas Treats, Fast Eddie Vegas. On April 1, Ender won an impromptu battle royal to become the #1 contender, a match placed on the spot by RCW Promoter Brandon Oliver. The Treats manager -- Commissioner Yebisu -- was away on business in Japan, and upon learning about Ender becoming the #1 contender, signed a match between Ender and Vegas. Vegas has had two opportunities at the RCW Championship -- and both times, the champion "300-pound Tex-Mex T-Rex" Hotstuff Hernandez was successful in his title defenses. Eddie vows to win back the #1 contender status and will go on to face Hernandez and not receive a "strike three." Meanwhile, Ender's success story -- as he and injured partner Kris Kronie are RCW's current Tag Team Champions -- could continue to grow, as a nerd could go on to face a monster on May 7 at Tiffany's Billiards.

Ikaika in a Texas Treats Challenge
Yebisu was further enraged that Ikaika stepped in for Kris Kronie and helped Ender defeat The Texas Treats back on April 1. After a conference with the Treats, Yebisu has signed "The Smashing Machine" to a "Texas Treats Challenge." What does this mean? Find out on April 22!

Martin Styles vs. Chris Marval
This could be a night to remember for the Texas Treats, or it could be a nightmare. "Cocky" Chris Marval will take on the high-flying graduate of the Shawn Michaels Wrestling Academy, Martin Styles. Can Marval ground the aerial feats of Styles?

Don Juan issues an open challenge
Don Juan is on top of the world right now. The Texas Treat was recently on WWE's Heat against Matt Striker, and now has issued an open challenge to anyone in RCW. Who will accept?

Spiro vs. Showtime Summers
Spiro has been up-and-down recently. After a hot start, his match against Hotstuff Hernandez in November never materialized due to outstide interference, and after bowing out in the first round of the Tag Team Championship Tournament back in February (which he blamed on his tag partner), Spiro lost to Quinten Allen in a Lumberjack Fan Strap Match at Breaking All of the Rules. After a tour in England, "The Classic Superstar" is back. Meanwhile, Showtime has been on the injured shelf after a bloodbath Street Fight against Ikaika at Breaking All of the Rules. Showtime proved how much it will take to keep him down. What will happen on April 22?

"One Man" Mike Dell vs. Quinten Allen
This is the battle of the Natural Athletes. On April 1, Allen denounced his tag team partners, while Dell seems to have found some "new teammates" with the fans. Allen wants to prove he was the leader of the Athletes, while the cocky Dell is not one to back down.

The Hardbodies in action!
"Juicy" J.T. Lamotta and Andrew Dalton return to RCW. On April 1, they won a #1 Contender's Match over Hallowmass. With Kronie on the injured list, who will The Hardbodies face?

You can buy tickets online at http://www.rcw-wrestling.com or at Arts of the Scholar Warrior Gym! Call (210) 842-8398 in advance!

The next live event is Saturday, April 22, at Arts of the Scholar Warrior Gym, 1126 W. Hildebrand. The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance or at the door, and can be purchased online at http://www.rcw-wrestling.com/, or at Arts of the Scholar Warrior Gym (please call ahead at 210-842-8398. There will be limited seating, so be sure to buy your tickets in advance or get there early!

This event is where RCW invites fans to "step into our world." This is where the RCW wrestlers train, as well as boxers and martial artists. Proceeds for this event go to support these training programs, which help kids stay off the street and enroll into boxing and martial arts programs.

Make no mistake about it -- this show won't be as "comfortable" as the friendly-confines of the YWCA or Hope of Glory Church. It will be gritty, the temperature will be hot, and fans will get an idea of what the fighters endure daily in their training. It's an opportunity for the fans to "step into our world," and see what daily life is like for RCW and the fighters of Arts of the Scholar Warrior Gym.

On the card will be:

Battle for the #1 Contendership
Johnny Ender of the Nerdy Boys, 1/2 of RCW's Tag Team Champions, puts his #1 Contender status on the line against Fast Eddie Vegas of the Texas Treats

Commissioner Yebisu was upset that RCW promoter Brandon Oliver made an impromptu Battle Royal for the #1 contender spot at the April 1 event. During that Battle Royal, Ender scored the upset and won the right to face RCW Champion Hotstuff Hernandez on May 7 at Tiffany's Billiards.

Fast Eddie, meanwhile, took the newest TNA star and LAX member to the limit, but ultimately, the 300-pound Tex-Mex T-Rex Hernandez was able to successfully defend his title. Vegas wants another shot -- which would be his third attempt -- and Yebisu happily obliged, ordering this match and forcing Ender to put his #1 contender status on the line.
Ikaika in a special challenge match
Apparently, The Texas Treats are not finished with "The Smashing Machine," and have convinced Yebisu to sign Ikaika for a special challenge match that will be revealed on April 22.

More matches to be announced!

Royal Rumble Returns to San Antonio

Although not technically dealing with independent wrestling, it should come as interesting to San Antonio Wrestling fans that the World Wrestling Entertainment has announced that the 2007 Royal Rumble is set to take place at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, January 28, 2007.

As usual, the winner of the thirty man Rumble will win himself a title shot at either the WWE Champion or World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 23.

San Antonio hosted the 1997 edition of the Royal Rumble, headlined by Shawn Michaels regaining the WWF Championship (now WWE Championship) from Sycho Sid in the Main Event. The Rumble was won by Stone Cold Steve Austin and the entire card featured several wrestlers from south of the border.

TWE Show News & Results

Texas Wrestling Entertainment presented an entertaining show at the Bellaire Baptist Church Gym Saturday April 8th. Despite a questionable decision to issue an open challenge to The Texas Treats by way of announcing an appearance and the abscences of star Milano Collection AT, who was competing at the Super 8 Tournament in Delaware, and of announced guest Sika, who ran into transportation problems, the show became more about who was there rather than who wasn't. (long sentence, huh?) The surprise return of newlyweds Darin and Rachel Childs along with the revealing of Tito Sanchez as El Latino's mystery partner were among the many highlights of the show. On top of this, the TWE Texas Tag Team Titles were up for grabs and ended up being won by a team that didn't even start the event as a team.

The show began with an appearance by Darin Childs and his new bride Rachel who were greeted enthusiastically by the crowd. Darin came out with the line of the night. "I'm here tonight for two reasons: It's an hour from my home and I need the paycheck." Great line Darin. The two then joined the crowd to watch former Rock-n-Roll Nightmare partner Spector in his match with Chris Cody. Spector did not seem interested in exchanging pleasantries with his ex-partners. Unfortunately for Spector he was not able to put on his finishing move as Cody was able to force the submission.

In the second fight, Cowboy James Claxton was able to get the pin on Hector Navarro in a match where the crowd seemed evenly divided on whom to support. In the final match before intermission, Rudy Boy Gonzalez defeated Sika's Protege Bulldozer Graham. After the match, Graham called out RBG and said that next time Graham wouldn't be coming alone. Rudy responded by pointing out several fans who would be able to back RBG at the next event. The most promising prospect was a young man known only as "The Natural."

After the intermission was the scheduled Texas Tag Team Title Match. However the Texas Treats had made it clear that they had no intention of appearing at this or any TWE event. Referee Rick Porter and TWE CEO Rudy Gonzalez declared the titles vacated. As the challengers, Skitzo and Brett Thunder lobbied to be given the belt, the Children of Pain, Darin Childs and Jacob Ladder made their way to the ring accompanied by Rachel. Rudy agreed to make the match. All the competitors were at the top of their games and the fans were treated to a classic. Unfortunately Brett Thunder was injured when he was thrown from the ring and had to be helped to the back, leaving Skitzo to battle alone. The veteran duo of Ladder and Childs spent several minutes pounding on Skitzo until it seemed the youth would have to give in the quest for gold. Suddenly Hector Navarro emerged from the back and took the position in Skitzo's corner hollering for the tag. Referee Rick Porter allowed the match to continue and eventually Skitzo made the tag and Navarro unleashed a furious attack on Ladder and Childs. In the end, Navarro and Skitzo gained the victory. As the Children of Pain took their anger out on the pair, Brett Thunder returned to help clear the ring. Afterwards, Thunder tried to take the belt from Navarro, claiming that the title was his since he started the match. Skitzo and Navarro disagreed and left with their new title belts. Brett Thunder was left alone in the ring to wonder about the chain of events.

In the Main Event, a tag team grudge match, Big Dogg and "Mr. Beautiful" Rudy Russo faced Russo's old partner El Latino and a "mystery partner." Latino revealed his partner to be 20 year veteran Tito Sanchez, the man who had originally trained El Latino in the sport. Russo avoided his former Latin Alliance partner for most of the match. Eventually the frustration for Sanchez and Latino became too much for the pair to handle and Referee Rick Porter was knocked to the mat. Porter declared the team of Big Dogg and Russo the winners by DQ. This did not sit well with El Latino who had only managed to get in 3 punches on Russo during the match. Latino demanded that RBG come out and make a match where Russo could not run. Gonzalez agreed to make a Lumberjack Match for the next event.

In all, the card was a very entertaining night. The Tag Title Match had everything needed to be considered a match of the year contender. the next Gym Wars Event was announced for May 14th at the Bellaire Baptist Church Gym. In observance of Mother's Day, there will be special admission for mothers who attend. The main event Lumberjack Match between El Latino and Rudy Russo and an appearance by former WWE Superstar Wild Samoan Sika have already been announced. Check the TWE webpage for updates. www.texaswrestlingentertaiment.com

Hotstuff Hernandez successful in title defense

RCW thrills more than 250 fans at the YWCA
River City Wrestling held a professional wrestling event on Saturday, April 1, at the YWCA, 503 Castroville Rd. More than 250 fans were in attendance for this event just two short weeks after Breaking All of the Rules.

1. The Texas Treats - Chris Marval & Don Juan (win) vs. The Crusaders - Pop 'n Lock
The Texas Treats were without Commissioner Yebisu, who is currently in Japan, but came to the ring with fellow Treat and ..1 contender, Fast Eddie Vegas. After a heated discussion with RCW Promoter Brandon Oliver, Oliver sent Eddie to the back and gave the Treats an impromptu match against a team that "could dance better than the Treats." Dancing skills aside, this was a great match, but The Treats got the better of the Crusaders who made a nice showing in their RCW debut.

2. No DQ MatchMartin Styles (win) vs. Quinten Allen
This was Styles' first match in RCW. Quinten Allen, meanwhile, has been on an impressive streak, including fighting through an injury and defeating Spiro in a Lumberjack Fan Strap Match at Breaking All of the Rules. Before the match, Allen said he is the only genuine natural athlete, degrading his running mates Mike Dell and Hector Montoya who together comprise the Natural Athletes. A big-time highlight included Styles, a graduate of the Shawn Michaels Wrestling Academy, diving off of the top rope, over the guardrail, and onto Quinten Allen who was standing out in the crowd.

3. Tag Team Championship ..1 Contenders Match
The Hardbodies - Andrew Dalton & JT LaMotta (win) vs. Hallowmass - Joseph & Logan
Both teams make their return to RCW put forth an incredible tag match. Despite the "questionable" antics of the Hardbodies, Dalton was able to roll up Logan and capture the win and the ranking as the ..1 contenders to the tag titles.

Mr. Showtime Summers made his way to the ring, still suffering from the effects of the Street Fight he had with Ikaika back at Breaking All of the Rules. Summers, who lost 3 pints of blood and required 16 staples to his head two weeks ago, came out and thanked the fans. Then he revealed it was April Fool's Day and proceeded to abuse the fans in attendance.

4. Rudy Russo vs. One Man Mike Dell (win)
"Mr. Beautiful" came out to the ring and of course was telling everyone how "beautiful" he is, when a football came flying over the curtain and landed in the ring, signalling the entrance of "One Man" Mike Dell. The crowd imitated the "football pose" of Dell as he came to the ring. A back-and-forth contest ensued, but Dell scored a "Touchdown" and pinned Russo for the win.

5. The Texas Treats vs. Johnny Ender & Ikaika (win)
"The Smashing Machine" filled in for Ender's partner Kris Kronie. This was an incredible tag team match, with back and forth action. Eventually, Ikaika hit the "Burning Hammer" on Marval and Ender followed with a Nerd-Factor for the win. After the match, Oliver attempted to interview Ender about his injured friend, but Ender was attacked once again by the Treats. Ikaika and Martin Styles made the save, which led to Oliver making a new match....

6. Battle Royal to name ..1 Contender to RCW Heavyweight Championship:
(in order eliminated) Don Juan, Chris Marval, Quinten Allen, Andrew Dalton, JT LaMotta, Ikaika, Martin Styles, Rudy Russo, Mike Dell, & Johnny Ender (win)
Oliver decided to make an impromptu Battle Royal to determine a ..1 contender for the next RCW show. The Texas Treats quickly eliminated themselves by jumping over the top rope, avoiding any conflict. Meanwhile, Ender battled through Russo and Dell, and won the Battle Royal. After the match, Ender celebrated the win with his new-found friend, Ikaika.

7. Main Event - RCW Heavyweight Championship
Challenger Fast Eddie Vegas (with Texas Treats) vs. Champion Hotstuff Hernandez (win & retains title)
The 300-pound Tex-Mex T-Rex, and now part of NWA-TNA's LAX group with Konnan, had incredible odds to face in this title defense. This was a rematch from their Match of the Year candidate back in February. This time, however, Eddie had the Treats in his corner, and they interfered throughout the match. The trio even hit the champion with a triple superplex, and then Eddie bloodied Hernandez' nose with a knee to the face. However, the Tex-Mex T-Rex UNBELIEVABLY hit a sunset flip powerbomb OFF THE TOP TURNBUCKLE and scored the victory.

Weekend Report

Saturday April 1st
RCW Show News & Results

River City Wrestling returned to the YWCA on Castroville Road, the site of "Breaking All Of The Rules," with a more traditional show Saturday. It may have been more traditional, but it was no less memorable. The San Antonio crowd was slow arriving and slow to warm to the action, but it wasn't long before a crowd of more than 250 fans were screaming at the wrestlers in the ring. A new tag team debuted in the first match in the form of the masked team "The Crusaders." "Pop 'n Lock" faced the Texas Treats in the match and seemed to confuse the Treats and the Crowd at times with their antics. Martin Styles made his return to San Antonio Wrestling in a match against Quinten Allen. New number one contenders to the Tag Titles (currently held by the Nerdy Boys) were named in a match pitting Joseph and Logan of Hallowmass against The Hardbodies Andrew Dalton and JT LaMotta. Dalton & LaMotta will face the Nerdy Boys at an upcoming event.

Before the Intermission, Showtime Summers, who lost 3 pints of blood and required 16 staples to his head two weeks ago, came out and thanked the fans. Then he revealed it was April Fool's Day and proceeded to abuse the fans in attendance. Rudy Russo faced One Man Mike Dell in a very good match in which Dell fought with the full support of the crowd. The Texas Treats fought a second match of the night against Ikaika and one half of the Nerdy Boys Johnny Ender. Kris Kronie is expected to make his in ring return soon following his internal injuries at BAOTR.

Before the main event, a Battle Royal was held to decide the #1 contender to the RCW Championship. In a fast paced match, Johnny Ender emerged victorious and will face the champion at the next show. The Main Event was a rematch of the incredible match from last February between Champion Hotstuff Hernandez and Challenger Fast Eddie Vegas. This time Eddie had the assistance of the Texas Treats who gave Hernandez (and Referee Alex Marrozos for that matter) all he could handle. In the end, Hotstuff was able to hold on and win the match.

The date for the next RCW show has not been announced but will be posted on the River City Wrestling webpage soon. www.rcw-wrestling.com

TWE News & Show Results

San Antonio wrestling fans who attended Fatso's Sports Bar's showing of WWE PPV Wrestlemania were treated to a Pre-Game Slam from Texas Wrestling Entertainment. TWE presented 5 solid matches. Brett Thunder submitted Cowboy James Claxton in an entertaining first match. Vicki & Spector beat Simply Luscious & Skitzo in an intergender tag match. Windwalker returned from his injury last February in a Tag match with partner Hector Navarro against Bigg Dogg & Rudy Russo who spoiled the return. Spector managed to beat Skitzo a second time in one day in a singles match. The Main Event was for the TV Title and pitted Challenger Jared Steele against Champion Milano Collection AT (who will compete in the Super 8 Tournament next Saturday for ECWA in Delaware.) In an outstanding match which went both ways, champion Milano was able to hold onto his belt. The next TWE event was announced for next Saturday, April 8 at the Bellaire Baptist Church Gym at 116 Clovis at 7 pm. Check out www.texaswrestlingentertainment.com for card details.
