Huge Weekend Report - Part 2
RCW Takes Over Car Show
River City Wrestling made an appearance at the San Antonio Car Show Sunday May 28th at the Airport Convention Center and a crowd of hundreds witnessed 5 top level matches. While many RCW T-Shirts could be seen in the crowd, most of those in attendance had probably never seen live indy wrestling before. Based on the enthusiastic response, this won't be the last time for most of the new fans. The show started with an exciting Fan Lumberjack Strap Match which had been set up the night before between former tag partners Hector Montoya and Mike Dell. One Man Mike Dell is always in the running for Match of the Night and this match was no exception, but it was Hector Montoya who showed the crowd some of the most impressive moves of the afternoon. The crowd was thrilled by the action that went back and forth between the two, and when either went to the floor, the fans with straps stood poised to do their duty. When the dust settled it was One Man Mike Dell whose hand was raised in victory by Referee Alex Marrozos.
The second match showed no let up as the crowd was treated to a Triple Threat No DQ match featuring "The Upset Kid" Joey Spector, Showtime Summers and "The Bling King" Quinten Allen. These three battled dramatically, even bringing out a ladder which was put to good use. None of the wrestlers was able to take the advantage for long. In the end, it was Quinten Allen who was able to extend his winning streak. The Bling King didn't have time to celebrate however, as One Man Mike Dell returned to the ring and nailed Allen. QA was able to escape the ring before absorbing Dell's finisher.
Next the RCW Tag Titles were on the line as the champions, The Nerdy Boys, faced two members of the IPS. Spiro and Chris Marval, who each had scored a pinfall over one of the Nerdy Boys the previous night in the big 8 man elimination tag match, figured to be ready to score the pin in a title match. The Nerdy Boys were not ready to give up so easily as they withstood the assault of the larger opponents. Despite receiving a tremendous beating at the hands of the rule breakers, Johnny Ender and Kris Kronie were able to prevail and show the doubters in the crowd who the Tag Champs are.
The fourth match would have been a main event anywhere in Texas as Fast Eddie Vegas renewed his rivalry with Hotstuff Hernandez in a battle for Hotstuff's RCW Heavyweight Title. In this, the third rematch since the classic first meeting of the two last February, Fast Eddie showed the determination that has made him a #1 contender. Despite having to deal with Eddie in the ring, Hotstuff also had to deal with Commissioner Yebisu, Chris Marval & Spiro on the outside. Hotstuff, who had on the previous evening proclaimed his unwillingness to share the title of "Superstar" with anyone, didn't show any signs of letting up. As might be expected, Hotstuff dominated the smaller Vegas early until Eddie was able to turn the tables. It appeared that Eddie was finally poised to take the title as he climbed the corner ringpost when Danny De La Paz from the movies "Boulevard Nights" and "American Me" ran to ringside, pushing Eddie, and causing him to fall from his perch. Hotstuff seized the advantage at this point and slammed Eddie for the pin.
The Main Event was the Tables Match that had been set up the night before between Don Juan of the IPS and Ikaika the Smashing Machine. This was a violent match between two former friends who now hate one another. Commissioner Yebisu was ringside again to assure his man had an advantage, but those who saw the last match between Don Juan and Ikaika know that the big Hawaiian wasn't going to let anyone get in the way of him punishing Don Juan. Both men worked on inflicting damage to their opponent for a long time with neither setting the table. No one wanted a quick finish for this one. The object was clearly pain before victory. The action spilled out into the crowd as spectators had to be moved back from the pair of combatants. Eventually the table was set up and Ikaika slammed the bloody Don Juan through the table and gained some measure of revenge against the IPS.
Despite having wrestled less than 24 hours before, and facing the prospect of fighting in front of a crowd made largely of people who had never been to an RCW show before, the wrestlers and other members of the RCW Team seized the opportunity and presented a first-rate show, winning countless new fans for sure. Brandon Oliver and all of the RCW crew should be applauded for bringing QUALITY wrestling to people in San Antonio.

RCW Show Results & Huge News
River City Wrestling held its second "Welcome To Our World Event" at the Arts of the Scholar Warrior Gym at 1126 Hildebrand Saturday night May 27th. Ring announcer Jeff Houston introduced Brandon Oliver who started the night off with perhaps the biggest news in local wrestling all year: RCW is returning to Television! RCW has been added to the UPN 2 schedule beginning Thursday night June 29th (Technically Friday morning at 12:30 am.) This is exciting news as UPN 2 is available from Austin to the Valley, making RCW available to an extremely large audience of South Texas Wrestling Fans. Congratulations Brandon, RCW and all the RCW family.
The actual show began as referee Alex Marrozos came out to the ring. The first match pitted Spector, who was greeted with a tremendous response once again, against the Hardbodies' Andrew Dalton, who received an entirely different response. The crowd was greatly into this match as Spector and Dalton exchanged the advantage before Dalton's partner J.T. LaMotta came to the ring and distracted the ref. During the distraction, Dalton landed a hard shot to Spector's groin allowing Dalton to steal the pin. After the match, Spector swore to extract his revenge sometime during the night.
Before the second match, Brandon Oliver announced the main event for the evening would be an 8-man tag team match featuring the IPS (International Power Station - Spiro, Fast Eddie, Chris Marval & Don Juan) and the team of Hotstuff Hernandez, Ikaika & the Nerdy Boys (Johnny Ender & Kris Kronie.) With this announcement, the entire IPS accompanied to the ring by their manager Commissioner Yebisu hobbled to the ring, clearly battered from the beating they took at the hands of the LAX at Tiffany Billiard 3 weeks ago. Spiro wore slings on both arms, Marval was on crutches and a catatonic Fast Eddie was in a wheel chair pushed by an equally bandaged Yebisu. The only non-injured member, Don Juan explained that the IPS would be unavailable for a match tonight, and thanked the crowd for paying $5 to come see them. Brandon Oliver ordered the IPS to either fight or be fired. This threat had a miraculous effect on the team, but even more miraculous was the response when Oliver revealed that the special referee for the match would be none other than... Brandon Oliver.
The second match of the night was another in a series of "Beautiful Challenges" from Mr. Beautiful himself, Rudy Russo. Russo challenged anyone in the back to come face him. The crowd and Russo were shocked when from out of the back came San Antonio Wrestling Legend Dusty Wolfe. Dusty, who recently returned home from a wrestling tour of Asia, forced Russo to raise his game to a new level in fighting the more experienced veteran. Russo used every trick he could muster, even smacking Wolfe with the mirror in an effort to gain the win, but Wolfe proved too much for him in the end. Following the match, Spiro came out and welcomed Dusty to RCW, commenting on how River City Wrestling was an equal opportunity employer, hiring wrestlers of all colors, races, shapes and sizes, and NOW, a "Senior Citizen." Let's just say Dusty's response to this greeting was not too subdued.
Match #3 featured the second member of the Hardbodies against the returning madman Wally Darkmon who won the crowd over with his exciting and athletic maneuvers and his unconventional behavior. When Darkmon scored his finisher, the crowd rose to their feet in cheers. After the match, Darkmon must have been distracted by the voices in his head, because he was unable to deter the attack by LaMotta's partner Andrew Dalton. As the The Hardbodies proceeded to beat down Darkmon, Joey Spector returned to make the save, setting up a tag match for later that evening.
Prior to the next match, The Honduran Hitman Hector Montoya came to the ring, setting up the match between his two former partners in the Natural Athletes. Recently crowned "Bling King" Quinten Allen dismissed Montoya rudely upon arrival to the ring. Allen's opponent, One Man Mike Dell, however accepted the greeting of Montoya cordially. The match itself was very even as both combatants seemed to know the other's moves, strengths and weaknesses. Eventually Dell built his advantage, setting up his finisher, but Allen avoided it, deflecting the tackle to referee Alex Marrozos. While Marrozos lay stunned in the ring, Hector Montoya sneaked in and hit a move on Dell, setting up a pin by Allen and revealing Montoya's true allegiances. This set up the match at Sunday's car show between Dell and Montoya which is scheduled to be a Lumberjack Strap match, with fans as lumberjacks.
Following the intermission, Aguila Negro came to the ring to discuss the injuries he received at the hands of Ikaika last show. Aguila Negro swore revenge was coming against the Smashing Machine as soon as the injuries healed. Also announced at this time was the winner of the first ever RCW Fan of the Month. Chosen from among the first four Fans of the Week was Andrew "Punk" who celebrated his win exuberantly in the ring with Brandon Oliver & Jeff Houston. Congratulations go out to Andrew and to all the RCW Fans of the Week.
The next match was the announced Tag Match between the Hardbodies and the newly formed team of Joey Spector & Wally Darkmon. The shadow alliance of Spector & Darkmon, despite having never tagged before, showed remarkable teamwork. Spector actually seemed to be able to communicate with the bizarre Darkmon. Unfortunately however, the Hardbodies were able to grab control of the match, and using double team tactics, keep Spector in the ring for a long period of the match. When Darkmon was finally able to get in the match, the fan favorites extracted a measure of revenge on the Hardbodies. In the end however, the underhanded tactics of Dalton & LaMotta paid off with the win.
The Main Event was now set. First to the ring was the team of the IPS, accompanied by Commissioner Yebisu. Then Special Referee Brandon Oliver. Next came the team of Tag Champions The Nerdy Boys (Johnny Ender & Kris Kronie,) the RCW Heavyweight Champion Hotstuff Hernandez and finally The Smashing Machine Ikaika. The match started with Hotstuff & Don Juan. All 8 men found themselves in the ring in turn as the fan favorites began to show their dominance. When the IPS was able to regroup, they were able to isolate Johnny Ender of the Nerdy Boys, heaping punishment upon the smallest of the men in the match until Chris Marval was able to pin and eliminate Ender. The next victim of the IPS was Ender's partner Kronie who also had to face countless double teams before being pinned and eliminated by Spiro. This made the match up 4 men to 2 in favor of the IPS, but when the 2 are Ikaika and Hotstuff it hardly seemed fair to the IPS. Ikaika came in and seemed destined to the same fate as the Nerdy Boys as all the members of the IPS took turns double and triple teaming the big Hawaiian. Finally Hotstuff was able to get into the match, clearing the ring quickly of the IPS. That left Hotstuff and Ikaika alone in the ring when the unimaginable occurred! Hotstuff Hernandez turned on his own partner, slamming him to the canvas. The IPS watched on in shock as Hernandez punished not only Ikaika but the returning Nerdy Boys. In the end, Hotstuff proclaimed that there is only room for one superstar in RCW and that he was that superstar. Hernandez then left carnage behind and headed to the lockerroom. At this point the IPS returned like a pack of hyenas, preying on the fallen Ikaika, Ender & Kronie, as well as referee Brandon Oliver. When they put Ikaika through a table they finally seemed satisfied with the damage they had inflicted. It was then that they turned their attention back to Brandon Oliver, demanded several matches be set up for the car show on Sunday. Don Juan demanded to face Ikaika in a Tables match. Spiro & Marval demanded a shot at the Tag Titles from the Nerdy Boys, and Fast Eddie demanded another shot at the Heavyweight Title held by Hernandez. Brandon Oliver, never backing down from providing the fans with the best matches possible agreed to these matches and Ikaika suggested they add some chairs to his table match. As the show closed, the crowd seemed in awe of the events that had just occurred. Many expressed their intention to make the show on Sunday to see what could possibly happen next.

Lucha Libre Mexicana Finds Home In San Antonio
It was a night of Superheroes, Technicos & Rudos at Sociedad Cruz Blanca Friday May 26th. The weather was quite pleasant as the crowd enjoyed 5 matches in the traditional Lucha Libre style. The referee for the evening was el Mano Negra. The show began with two wrestlers who are very familiar to local fans of both American style wrestling and Luche as Dragon X faced Virus. The pair exchanged impressive series of chain wrestling moves as the crowd cheered on. Eventually Virus took control and seized the victory from the masked Dragon X.
In the second match Brindis faced El Ilegal. The big rudo demonstrated an array of underhanded tactics on the smaller masked technico who put up a gallant fight, even seizing the advantage before El Ilegal deliberately got himself disqualified with a blatant low blow. The third match featured veteran Santana Express and A masked man called Aquaman. The match was fast paced and over quickly, virtually before the crowd could figure out who was the rudo and who was the technico. In a flash, Santana Express scored the pin.
The Semifinal was perhaps the best match of the evening as Lemus II faced Spiderman in a traditional two falls out of three match. The two luchadores battled back and forth before the masked superhero gained the first pinfall. In the second fall, Lemus II took control by slowing the action down and focusing on a series of submission holds primarily aimed at Spiderman's right leg. Eventually the abuse proved too much and Spiderman submitted to the leg lock. The third fall appeared to be headed in the same direction as the masked man from East LA continued to focus on submission wrestling. The crowd of young fans seemed to inspire Spiderman however, who reversed a hold and managed the pin in the third and deciding fall.
The Main Event, or Lucha Estrella, was scheduled to be a Mixed Tag match pitting the team of Batman & Yoko against El Boricua & Miss Shocka. However, when El Boricua came to the ring, Miss Shocka was nowhere to be seen. Instead Boricua's partner turned out to be Mr. Muerte. The team of Batman & Yoko weren't to be deterred and stepped up to the challenge. Despite losing the first fall, the Technico's came back to win two straight falls and gain the victory in an entertaining match that followed a traditional Lucha story, pitting the forces of good vs. evil, facing adversity before triumphing in the end.
The Sociedad Cruz Blanca is a non-profit organization of senior women who sponsor monthly dances for their members, bingo games on weekends and other community activities. This was the second successful evening of Lucha Libre at the hall. Plans are set to hold shows every other Friday through the summer, with the next event scheduled for June 9th.

- "The Smashing Machine" Ikaika lost his cool after special guest referee Aguila Negro disqualified him during his match with International Power Station member Don Juan back on May 7. Ikaika destroyed Negro chairshots to the leg, resulted in torn ligaments to Negro's knee that will require surgery. Nothing could stop him on May 7... now, Ikaika is on a mission to destroy all of those oppose him. First on the list -- The IPS!
- Speaking of the IPS, it was a hard-fought event on May 7. Members Fast Eddie Vegas, Chris Marval, and Spiro lost to NWA-TNA's LAX, culminating with Vegas getting tossed off a boat 20-feet in the air and onto his teammates below. On May 27, all members of the IPS, along with Commissioner Yebisu, will be in attendance.
- "The Bling King" Quinten Allen vs. "One Man" Mike Dell
It's "The Bling King" versus "The Prom King." The Natural Athletes are now a thing in the past, and now only a rivalry exists. These two previously matched up at the first "Step Into Our World" on April 22, and then Allen outlasted Dell in becoming RCW's first Ring King. Now christened "The Bling King," Allen sits high on his throne. Will the high school football star knock him off... and out?
- Joey Spector vs. Andrew Dalton of the Hardbodies
Mouths dropped when Spector returned to RCW, and he immediately made an impact, making it to the finals of the Ring King Tournament. This time, Spector must face a Hardbody in singles competition. Dalton, along with LaMotta, are enraged they lost their match on May 7 to current RCW Tag Team Champions The Nerdy Boys. Dalton promises quick work of Spector.

Russo has issued these "Beautiful Challenges" before, with both Roxy and Martin Styles stepping up to the plate. Russo has survived, and begs the question, "who is more beautiful than Rudy Russo?"

Not much is known about the mysterious, dark... and odd... Darkmon. What we do know is that he is a fantastic wrestler, despite his eccentric personality. ACW Show News and Results
American Championship Wrestling returned to the Venue at 800 Lexington Sunday May 21st with another solid show. Ring Announcer Jeff Houston started the show by reviewing the events from last show including the injury to Prince Fontenot at the hands of Jacob Ladder during the title match. As Jeff explained about the 2nd degree burns Rachel Putski interrupted. Rachel announced that since the Children of Pain owned both singles titles and had sidelined Prince, they were now in charge of ACW and running the show. She then introduced Texas Heavyweight Champion Darin Childs. As Darin was endearing himself to the crowd, there was yet another interruption. This time it was One Man Mike Dell who came to the ring. Darin & Rachel announced that they had arranged a special opponent for Dell, a man who had in his time had teamed with both Childs and with Dell - Showtime Summers. Jeff Houston was joined by new announcing partner Chris Jordan, the bell rang and the match began. Summers and Dell exchanged moves and blows in an exciting match. Eventually however, Dell seized control and the victory.
The second match announced was a handicap match featuring the team of Dragon X and Cobra against one half of the AWE Tag Champions Texas Renegade. The match had the stipulation that if Cobra & Dragon X managed a victory they would earn a shot at the Ragin' Renegades' Tag Titles. The two men could not however take advantage of the opportunity as the Renegade's power proved too much for them.
After the match Heavyweight Champion Jacob Ladder came out dressed in a Referee's shirt. Ladder relieved ACW ref Mike Sheen for the next match as he explained to Cobra and Dragon X, who were still recovering from their beating, that they were not set to fight each other and the winner would get a shot at Ladder's title at the next ACW show. The men agreed and commenced their match, but Ladder seemed uninterested in counting any pin attempt as Cobra and Dragon X each executed moves on the other. Finally Ladder seemed to tire of this amusement and slammed each of the two. He placed Dragon X atop the prone Cobra and counted the 1-2-3.
For the next match, El Latino came out, expecting to face his former teacher/partner Tito Sanchez in a rematch from last month, but instead was surprised to find out his opponent would be none other than his own brother Lemus II who claimed that El Latino had sold out his Lucha Libre roots, forsaking them for American style wrestling. El Latino was reluctant to engage his brother in a match but was forced to react when he was attacked from behind by Lemus II. The action was furious as the two engaged in a demonstration of chain wrestling. In the end, El Latino's mix of American Style and Lucha Libre proved to be the winning combination.
Following an intermission, the action began again as "Mr. Beautiful" Rudy Russo was set to face the other half of the Tag Champions, Johnny Rage who was accompanied to the ring by his partner Texas Renegade. The raucous crowd really got into the match between the two rulebreakers, cheering the action whomever was the aggressor at the moment. Despite facing a much larger opponent, Russo put up a game fight, but the interference of Renegade combined with the rulebreaking tactics of Rage soon placed Russo at the disadvantage. Just when Rage seemed on the verge of putting Russo away, the Beautiful one reversed a move and put Rage in an armbar gaining the surprise submission victory.
The Main Event featured two of the best tag teams in Texas. The Children of Pain, Darin Childs & Jacob Ladder accompanied by Rachel Putski faced the team of Hallowmass - Joseph & Logan. Both teams demonstrated an array of moves that thrilled the crowd. Ladder & Childs used every trick and double team tactic in the book but Hallowmass is no stranger to the ways of rulebreaking and were able to reverse the momentum in their own favor. That is until the lovely Rachel climbed onto the ring apron and turning her back, revealed her previously hidden beauty to Joseph and Logan as well as those members of the crowd sitting on one side of the ring. (Saying she mooned them just wouldn't do justice to the act.) Distracted by the sight, Joseph and Logan momentarily lost track of their objective. The Children of Pain seized the opportunity and the victory.
For the second month in a row, ACW presented a top-rate show before an enthusiastic crowd. The relationship with The Venue is clearly paying off for the promotion. The agreement has been extended through the end of the year with monthly shows scheduled. If ACW continues to bring in top talent and the crowd continues to respond enthusiastically, American Championship Wrestling will cement their status as another premier promotion in San Antonio.
In other ACW news, congratulations go out to Prince Fontenot who recently finalized the purchase of Red's Gym 12066 Starcrest. For the second month in a row, ACW presented a top-rate show before an enthusiastic crowd. The relationship with The Venue is clearly paying off for the promotion. The agreement has been extended through the end of the year with monthly shows scheduled. If ACW continues to bring in top talent and the crowd continues to respond enthusiastically, American Championship Wrestling will cement their status as another premier promotion in San Antonio.
In other ACW news, congratulations go out to Prince Fontenot who recently finalized the purchase of Red's Gym 12066 Starcrest. Southern Thunder Event
Southern Thunder Pro Wrestling returned to Ric's in Devine Friday night May 19th with 5 matches. The Texas Renegade got the action going in a hard hitting match against Ozzy Manson who proved to be no match for the veteran Renegade. In Match #2 Raiden of the Neon World Order and Dragon X renewed their rivalry in a No DQ Match. Raiden would have seemed to have the advantage in this match with his partner from the NWO, Berry at ringside. Berry however had little interest in helping his partner who had been verbally abusing him since before the show began. At one point Berry actually pinned Raiden for a three count by Dragon X as referee Michael Sheen watched, virtually helpless due to the No DQ stipulations. Eventually Dragon X took the victory after Berry tripped his own partner. Things do not look good for the young team of Raiden & Berry. The third match introduced newcomer J.J. Wakefield who faced veteran rulebreaker Virus who overwhelmed the young man, eventually scoring a submission victory.
Following an intermission, Tito Sanchez, who had been working as a color commentator for the first half, faced Blaine Steele. This was an evenly fought match which saw the action go back and forth between the two combatants. Sanchez had to battle not only Steele, but the audience who hailed abuse at Tito throughout the show. Eventually the crafty veteran Sanchez was able to take advantage of a distracted referee to make use of a steel chain. In the end, Sanchez's rulebreaking tactics overwhelmed Steele and Tito scored the win. In the main event, Vega stepped forward to accept an open challenge for Johnny Rage's Texas Heavyweight Belt. Rages scheduled opponent was unable to make the show and Vega was ready to take full advantage of his chance to win gold. At first the two fought a classic match, but eventually frustration began to step in for Vega who began resorting to rulebreaking tactics, undoubtedly taught to him by Tito Sanchez. Despite the underhanded tactics, Champion Johnny Rage was able to pull out the victory.
Next STPW Show set for Lytle
During the evening, STPW announced their next card, scheduled for June 11th at the New Cattlemans Bar in Lytle Texas. Bell time is set for 6:30 pm. Scheduled to appear is Heavyweight Champion Johnny Rage who will defend against Virus. Also on the card are Renegade, Tito Sanchez, Cobra, Blaine Steele, Dragon X, Vega, Raiden, Ozzy Manson, Berry plus Lucha Libre Superstars Lemus II and Mr. Muerte. PWE Show Cancelled
The Professional Wrestling Entertainment show scheduled and announced for tonight May 18th at Graham Central Station was cancelled. Roland, the promoter for PWE stated that there were problems with the venue. No other dates have been scheduled yet but Roland assures me that when future dates are finalized, "probably next month," he will notify me so that I may publish the details here.
The San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate situation. It is the policy of the SAIWS to publish information which might be of use to fans of independent wrestling in the San Antonio Area. The reliability of sources as well as the variable nature of the industry will occasionally result in changes which can not be posted in a timely manner. Rudy Boy Gonzales has updated the calendar at the TWE webpage (www.texaswrestlingentertainment.com) announcing a Terry Taylor Wrestling Clinic on July 22nd at the Bellaire Baptist Church Gym. Further details are forthcoming, but wrestlers, both local and from throughout the state, should be interested in learning from this respected in-ring and behind-the-scenes individual. TWE Mothers' Day Massacre
Texas Wrestling Entertainment returned to the Bellaire Baptist Church Gym at 116 Clovis Sunday May 14th with its Gym Wars show entitled "Mothers' Day Massacre."
The show featured 5 solid, entertaining matches from the TWE crew starting out with an Inter-Gender match involving Simply Luscious and Spector. This was a well fought match which ended in a disqualification when Rachel & Darin Childs came to the ring to interfere on behalf of their former partner Spector. Spector however would have none of it, refusing their help and accepting the disqualification from referee rig Porter. After the match, Spector raised Simply Luscious' hand in a show of sportsmanship.
The second match pitted Windwalker and Brett Thunder. The two combatants appeared evenly matched until Windwalker seemed to reinjure his knee. Thunder took advantage of the situation and continued to work on the injured limb but became increasingly frustrated as he was unable to get the pin, finally resorting to pulling the tights to get the victory.
Cowboy James Claxton faced the biggest challenge of his recent career in TWE in the form of Big Dogg who seemed even more surly than usual this night. The crowd really got behind the big cowboy who eventually landed a big boot the Big Dogg's face.
Following an intermission, 4 fans were selected to serve as special lumberjacks in the grudge match between former partners Rudy Russo & El Latino. Latino dominated early, gaining some revenge for the betrayal suffered at the hands of Russo last February. Russo showed amazing agility however, avoiding several attempts to throw him out to the strap wielding lumberjacks. The match eventually ended in a disqualification as Big Dogg charged the ring and attacked the distracted El Latino. This war is far from over.
The Main Event featured a rematch of sorts as recently crowned Tag Champions, Skitzo & Hector Navarro squared off against the Children of Pain, Darin Childs & Jacob Ladder accompanied by Rachel Childs. Last month Skitzo & Navarro won the titles over the C.O.P. in a match that had originally involved the team of Skitzo & Brett Thunder but Navarro replaced the injured Thunder mid-match and proceeded to gain the victory. Ladder & Childs came to gain what they believed to be rightfully theirs. For much of the match, the rule-breakers controlled the action with Navarro taking most of the punishment. The young champions seemed destined to lose to the more experienced team however the Children of Pain must have lost track of their goal, allowing themselves to get disqualified when Darin Childs put Skitzo through a table that had been set up ringside by Jacob Ladder & Rachel. Or maybe the C.O.P. just wanted to punish the champs and figured to take the belts later. No telling what motivates men like Ladder & Childs.

LAX Invades RCW
River City Wrestling presented a show at Tiffany Billiards Sunday Night May 7th in front of a record crowd of enthusiastic fans, many of whom had never been to a live wrestling show before but will certainly return. NWA-TNA's Latin American Xpress (LAX) - Konnan, Homicide and RCW Heavyweight Champion Hotstuff Hernandez headlined the card in a main event which pitted them against 3 members of the International Power Station (IPS.) The night featured 8 matches including a Tag Title match, a tournament to crown a Ring King and not one, but two matches which meet the criteria for "Match of the Year" consideration.
The early arriving crowd were already set for an exciting night when RCW Ring Announcer Jeff Houston kicked off the show by introducing River City Wrestling President Brandon Oliver. The pair were interrupted by the entire IPS including Commissioner Yebisu. The members of this stable each addressed the crowd promising success in their matches.
When the ring was finally cleared, Referee Alex Marrozos came out to a resounding reception from the fans who seemed to be under the impression that they were in the presence of John Travolta. Marrozos convinced them that they were mistaken by doing a few dance moves.
The preliminaries over with, the combatants for the first match were called to the ring. Erstwhile Natural Athlete Hector Montoya (wrestling fans understand words like erstwhile, right?) faced Chuy Martinez who gave a good show in his first RCW match but was unable to beat the Honduran Hitman Montoya.
The next three matches were part of a tournament to name the RCW "Ring King," a new title along the lines of the original WWE King of The Ring concept. In the first tournament match, Showtime Summers (with his new advisor Ray the Voice) faced former partner One Man Mike Dell. An incredibly even match when back and forth with neither man able to take an advantage until Martin Styles arrived ringside and distracted Summers long enough for Dell to gain control and the pin. The tournament continued with Quinten Allen facing RCW newcomer Wally Darkmon who certainly seemed to be enjoying himself, laughing maniacally for most of the match. Despite the erratic behavior of his opponent, Quinten Allen was able to get the pin and advance in the tournament. The final first round match featured Martin Styles and the return of fan favorite Joey Spector "The Upset Kid." This was a very exciting match which was highlighted by several high risk moves inside and outside the ring, including Styles leaping from the ring, over the barrier gate and onto Spector who was about three rows back into the crowd at the time. When referee Alex Marrozos was finally able to get the pair back into the ring he was quick to count a pinfall despite the fact that both men had their shoulders pinned to the mat at the time. RCW President Brandon Oliver decided that both men would advance into the finals of the Ring King Tournament. Suddenly the Triple Threat Championship match had become a Fatal Four-Way.
Next on the card was the much anticipated Tag Team Title match between champions The Nerdy Boys (Johnny Ender & Kris Kronie) and #1 contenders The Hardbodies (Andrew Dalton & JT LaMotta.) Clearly the challengers were motivated to take the titles as they dispensed with their normal prematch antics and attacked the Nerds quickly getting into the match. The Hardbodies took advantage of many underhanded tricks and isolated Kronie for much of the match. When Kronie finally managed to make the tag, Johnny Ender began cleaning house. In the confusion that ensued, it looked as though the Hardbodies had won the titles when Johnny Ender pinned, but his foot was on the ropes and Brandon Oliver called for the restart of the match. With renewed vigor the Nerdy Boys were able to turn the tables on the Hardbodies and gained the pinfall and retained the titles.
Following the intermission, the show kicked off again with the finals of the Ring King Tournament The Fatal Four-Way match featured Quinten Allen, Joey Spector, Martin Styles and One Man Mike Dell. Each of the men seized the advantage at times throughout the match until One Man Mike Dell was able to gain the first pinfall over Joey Spector. There was no time to celebrate however, as Quinten Allen burst into the ring and attacked Dell, quickly gaining the second fall and eliminating Dell. This left only Styles and Allen who appeared evenly matched until Showtime Summers appeared ringside and repayed Styles for the interference in the earlier match. Quinten Allen took advantage of the stunned styles and grabbed the final pin and the match. Summers continued to taunt Styles all the way to the dressing room as Quinten Allen prepared for his coronation in the ring. In his first act as Ring King, Allen proclaimed that from this point forward he is to be referred to as "Bling King" Quinten Allen.
Prior to the next match, Commissioner Yebisu made the announcement that he had selected a special referee to officiate over the bout between Ikaika and IPS member Don Juan. Things certainly seemed stacked against Ikaika when old rival Aguila Negro appeared from the back. Brandon Oliver was able to even things up a bit however when he warned that Aguila Negro had better call the match evenly or he would be fired. Despite clearly being upset by this, Negro did manage to call the match relatively fairly. As the match progressed however, Negro found himself more and more out of position to see any rule breaking by Don Juan and his manager Commissioner Yebisu. In an outstanding match, both men exchanged chops and moves which thrilled the crowd. Neither man was able to gain the pinfall as Aguila Negro was forced to keep an even count or face unemployment. Finally Aguila Negro found his opportunity as Commissioner Yebisu came into the ring and, in a failed attempt to smack Ikaika, missed, hitting Don Juan instead. Referee Aguila Negro saw this as his chance and declared Don Juan the winner due to outside interference. At this decision, an outraged Ikaika seemed to snap, attacking the trio of Yebisu, Don Juan and Aguila Negro. Negro took the worst of Ikaika's rampage as the Hawaiian Smashing Machine worked him over with a chair, severely damaging Negro's knee in the process. Brandon Oliver and a member of the Security Team were both hit with the chair as Ikaika raged on. No one seemed able to stop the big Hawaiian until The Nerdy Boys and One Man Mike Dell came to the ring and were able to snap Ikaika back to his senses. Ikaika demanded a rematch with Don Juan with no special referees or outside interference. This was an outstanding match which would have been a main event on almost any show other than this one. Both fighters showed great skill and heart in the battle and Aguila Negro and Commissioner Yebisu each added to the match in their own way. The post match action was over the top and set up future events in what promises to be tremendous feud.
The action did not let up here as the Main Event was next. The IPS team of Fast Eddie Vegas, Chris Marval & Spiro came out first. Next came the team of TNA's LAX - Konnan, Homicide & Hotstuff Hernandez. The crowd was ready for action as Hotstuff and Eddie started the match, and action they got. All six men spent considerable time in the ring with Homicide (who had last fought in San Antonio at RCW's Texas Explosion 2003) taking much of the action for his team. But the ring could not hold all the action in this match, which spilled out into the crowd and culminated with an incredible moment that can hardly be described. Fast Eddie Vegas, in an effort to escape from the fury of Hotstuff Hernandez, climbed to the top of a large boat (yes, a boat) that was ringside. When Hernandez caught up to Vegas, the men were on the top deck, over 10 feet above the crowd. Hotstuff lifted Eddie and Megabombed him over the side of the boat 15 feet into the rest of the IPS below. This was an amazing move and Fast Eddie might never be the same again. As Eddie and Commissioner Yebisu lay on the asphalt, Homicide and Konnan dragged the stunned Spiro and Marval back to the ring and placed each in submission holds. It did not take long for the two to tap out, giving the LAX the victory. Following the match, Konnan addressed the fans of San Antonio. Evoking the memory of Eddie Guerrero and referencing Rey Mysterio Jr, Konnan implored the crowd to continue to support wrestling and wrestlers of Hispanic tradition. He called Homicide and Hotstuff Hernandez the future of this tradition. If tonight was any indication, the tradition is in good shape.
In all, the night was a resounding success. Everything the River City Wrestling team does seems to work. Continued success will help assure RCW of it place on top of San Antonio wrestling for a long time. The next announced RCW shows are in 3 weeks with a Saturday show May 27 at the Arts of The Scholar Warrior Gym at 1126 W. Hildebrand and a Sunday show May 28 at the Annual Memorial Day Auto & DJ Expo at the Airport Convention Center 8505 Broadway. The Saturday show has a 6:30 pm start with $5 advanced tickets (available from the rcw website) and $7 tickets at the door. The Sunday Car Show begins at 11 am with a 4 pm bell time. This left only Styles and Allen who appeared evenly matched until Showtime Summers appeared ringside and repayed Styles for the interference in the earlier match. Quinten Allen took advantage of the stunned styles and grabbed the final pin and the match. Summers continued to taunt Styles all the way to the dressing room as Quinten Allen prepared for his coronation in the ring. In his first act as Ring King, Allen proclaimed that from this point forward he is to be referred to as "Bling King" Quinten Allen.
Prior to the next match, Commissioner Yebisu made the announcement that he had selected a special referee to officiate over the bout between Ikaika and IPS member Don Juan. Things certainly seemed stacked against Ikaika when old rival Aguila Negro appeared from the back. Brandon Oliver was able to even things up a bit however when he warned that Aguila Negro had better call the match evenly or he would be fired. Despite clearly being upset by this, Negro did manage to call the match relatively fairly. As the match progressed however, Negro found himself more and more out of position to see any rule breaking by Don Juan and his manager Commissioner Yebisu. In an outstanding match, both men exchanged chops and moves which thrilled the crowd. Neither man was able to gain the pinfall as Aguila Negro was forced to keep an even count or face unemployment. Finally Aguila Negro found his opportunity as Commissioner Yebisu came into the ring and, in a failed attempt to smack Ikaika, missed, hitting Don Juan instead. Referee Aguila Negro saw this as his chance and declared Don Juan the winner due to outside interference. At this decision, an outraged Ikaika seemed to snap, attacking the trio of Yebisu, Don Juan and Aguila Negro. Negro took the worst of Ikaika's rampage as the Hawaiian Smashing Machine worked him over with a chair, severely damaging Negro's knee in the process. Brandon Oliver and a member of the Security Team were both hit with the chair as Ikaika raged on. No one seemed able to stop the big Hawaiian until The Nerdy Boys and One Man Mike Dell came to the ring and were able to snap Ikaika back to his senses. Ikaika demanded a rematch with Don Juan with no special referees or outside interference. This was an outstanding match which would have been a main event on almost any show other than this one. Both fighters showed great skill and heart in the battle and Aguila Negro and Commissioner Yebisu each added to the match in their own way. The post match action was over the top and set up future events in what promises to be tremendous feud.
The action did not let up here as the Main Event was next. The IPS team of Fast Eddie Vegas, Chris Marval & Spiro came out first. Next came the team of TNA's LAX - Konnan, Homicide & Hotstuff Hernandez. The crowd was ready for action as Hotstuff and Eddie started the match, and action they got. All six men spent considerable time in the ring with Homicide (who had last fought in San Antonio at RCW's Texas Explosion 2003) taking much of the action for his team. But the ring could not hold all the action in this match, which spilled out into the crowd and culminated with an incredible moment that can hardly be described. Fast Eddie Vegas, in an effort to escape from the fury of Hotstuff Hernandez, climbed to the top of a large boat (yes, a boat) that was ringside. When Hernandez caught up to Vegas, the men were on the top deck, over 10 feet above the crowd. Hotstuff lifted Eddie and Megabombed him over the side of the boat 15 feet into the rest of the IPS below. This was an amazing move and Fast Eddie might never be the same again. As Eddie and Commissioner Yebisu lay on the asphalt, Homicide and Konnan dragged the stunned Spiro and Marval back to the ring and placed each in submission holds. It did not take long for the two to tap out, giving the LAX the victory. Following the match, Konnan addressed the fans of San Antonio. Evoking the memory of Eddie Guerrero and referencing Rey Mysterio Jr, Konnan implored the crowd to continue to support wrestling and wrestlers of Hispanic tradition. He called Homicide and Hotstuff Hernandez the future of this tradition. If tonight was any indication, the tradition is in good shape.
In all, the night was a resounding success. Everything the River City Wrestling team does seems to work. Continued success will help assure RCW of it place on top of San Antonio wrestling for a long time. The next announced RCW shows are in 3 weeks with a Saturday show May 27 at the Arts of The Scholar Warrior Gym at 1126 W. Hildebrand and a Sunday show May 28 at the Annual Memorial Day Auto & DJ Expo at the Airport Convention Center 8505 Broadway. The Saturday show has a 6:30 pm start with $5 advanced tickets (available from the rcw website) and $7 tickets at the door. The Sunday Car Show begins at 11 am with a 4 pm bell time. Indywarz Radio Magazine in the works
Stan Callahan of Indywarz Radio has issued the following statement:
Well, most of you know who I am and the rest have at least made fun of me a time or two. Well, I have this wild idea to put together a magazine or two. I am already in the process of two of them which will be ready some time in June and one in December or Jan. 2007. Well, now I think I am ready for a full time run at the magazine publishing thing. Here’s the deal: IndyWarz Radio Wrestling Monthly. That’s right, I’m stupid enough to try and get involved with a monthly “magazine”. There will be no subscriptions, you’ll have to purchase them one at a time. OK, so you say big deal, what the hell do you want? I need LOTS of information in order to make the magazine worth while. That means pictures, bios, news, results and any and everything you can think of.
The first edition is going to be history of all the promotions in Texas. So, if you are a promoter, help a promoter, or know a promoter (?) tell him to shoot me some history on his promotion. Again, I need all the information you can think of. I will also need bios from all the wrestlers in the state, so start emailing: stan@indywarzradio.com Also, I will be posting here and on my site, IndyWarzRadio.com, looking for columns, news, interviews and stuff like that. On April 22, Don Juan scored a pinfall victory over his mentor Ikaika, but it took Ikaika going through a gauntlet of three other guys in order to do it. This time, Don Juan has to face Ikaika one-on-one.

River City Wrestling previously announced a May 27 event at Hope of Glory Church. However, the Hope of Glory Church show is being rescheduled for a later date because of the logistics of that weekend.
The May 27 event will be held back at the Arts of the Scholar Warrior Gym, which housed the April 22 "Step Into Our World" event. Almost 150 fans visited a new location in a new side of town to see where the athletes of RCW train.
The event will have a start time of 6:30 p.m.
On the following day, Sunday, May 28, RCW will be a part of the 5th Annual Memorial Day Auto & DJ Expo at the San Antonio Airport Convention Center, 8505 Broadway. RCW will announce a bell time shortly, as well as ticket information.
RCW will reschedule a future date in June with Hope of Glory Church, the venue that started it all for RCW and a building where RCW consistently draws a standing room only crowd.

End of Month Thoughts and Rankings
As recently as one year ago, the San Antonio wrestling landscape was pretty barren. Several promotions had shut down, leaving only ETW to put on small shows in front of only a couple dozen avid fans. This last month is indicative of the phenomenal growth seen in one year’s time.
During April, the San Antonio area (including Devine, Texas) saw 5 different promotions present 8 wrestling cards. In all, 65 different wrestlers competed in the 46 matches at the 8 shows. Congratulations should go out to all the wrestlers as well as the Promoters for making April the most successful wrestling in San Antonio in recent memory. Hundreds, probably even thousands of fans enjoyed the product of your efforts.
Local Wrestlers achieved national success as RCW Champion Hotstuff Hernandez returned to TNA TV as a member of the LAX and TWE TV Champion Milano Collection AT made it to the Semi-Finals of the prestigious ECWA Super 8 Tournament.
New Champions were crowned during the month. Darin Childs (technically in March) won the ACW Texas Title. Child’s partner Jacob Ladder won the AWE Heavyweight Championship. PWE named two new singles champions in one night. Mad Dog Ken Johnson is the new Heavyweight Champion and Ricky Rhodes the new US Champion. Johnny Rage won the Southern Thunder Heavyweight Title in his hometown of Devine. TWE filled their vacant Tag Titles with the team of Hector Navarro and Skitzo, despite the fact that Brett Thunder started the match as Skitzo’s partner instead of Navarro.
With matches on four of the cards presented in San Antonio during the month, not counting his match in Devine (matches outside the city limits do not count in these rankings,) “Mr. Beautiful” Rudy Russo is the wrestler of the month for April. Rudy’s 13 points barely beat Mad Dog Ken Johnson who earned 12 points for his two matches in which he won and successfully defended the PWE Heavyweight Title.
Russo’s work ethic is well known throughout Texas and he is respected for his willingness to travel anywhere for a fight. Although not the biggest competitor on the card, he is probably the most memorable in his ability to get a reaction from the crowd the moment he walks through the curtain. Congratulations Rudy…. Beautiful!

Ikaika won a Gauntlet over “Mr. Beautiful” Rudy Russo, Nathan Sin, and Tesla, but then lost to Don Juan..(04-22-06)
The event was an outstanding success, considering that the event was held in a new location in a different part of town with less than two weeks of promoting. Arts of the Scholar Warrior Gym is where the athletes of RCW train, and fans were invited to “Step Into Our World.” Although the temperature was hot, so was the action.
In an interesting turn of events, The Treats Treats gained a new member, and a new name. Now known as The International Power Station, Commissioner Yebisu has assembled a group of talented athletes – Fast Eddie Vegas, Don Juan, Chris Marval, and Spiro. Spiro joined the group by attacking “The Smashing Machine” Ikaika as Ikaika was wrestling Don Juan in a Gauntlet Match. Though Spiro lost earlier to Marval, he helped his newfound friend gain a victory.
Though Spiro did not say why he joined The IPS at “Step Into Our World,” Spiro was later quoted as saying, “I never received any title shots. When I did have my shot at Hernandez, the match never took place because of a couple of punks and I never received another opportunity. Then in the Tag Title Tournament, my tag team partner caused us to lose in the first round. Then, in the Fan Lumberjack Strap Match, the fans were SUPPOSED to be on my side. I’m tired of everyone else’s problems getting in my way of winning championships. So I’ve surrounded myself with the best. Now ‘The Classic Superstar’ is unstoppable with the IPS.”
In other news, Fast Eddie Vegas regained his Number One Contender status to the RCW Championship. Johnny Ender won that right at the April 1 show in an impromptu Battle Royal, but Vegas defeated Ender on April 22 to once again become the Number One Contender. Thus far, Vegas has had two opportunities at the title. Will it be a third strike for Vegas?
“I have Hotstuff’s number,” Vegas said. “He’s been lucky twice. Soon, I will be the sexiest champion RCW has ever had.”
Don Juan also had an interesting night. Despite the return of RCW Tag Team Champion Kris Kronie, The Texas Treat was able to defeat The Nerdy Boy in a comeback match. After the match, Don Juan got into a heated confrontation with RCW Promoter Brandon Oliver, leading Don Juan into knocking out Oliver. Later in the night, Don Juan defeated Ikaika … after Ikaika wrestled three other men. This prompted Oliver to make a match one-on-one for May 7.
“I’m the only man to ever pin Ikaika,” Don Juan said. “The student has surpassed the teacher.”
After making that match, Oliver announced that RCW will be bringing down the other two members of LAX – Homicide and Konnan – to face Vegas, Marval, and Spiro on May 7.
“After Don Juan attacked me, I called up Hotstuff Hernandez and asked him to get a hold of Konnan and Homicide,” Oliver said. “Tonight was the night of the Texas Treats, IPS, Irritable Bowl Syndrome, whatever they want to call themselves. However, I think May 7 will be different when they have to face TNA’s Latin American Xchange.”

Weekend Report - Part 2
PWE News & Results
A fourth wrestling promotion in the San Antonio area has come to my attention. Pro Wrestling Entertainment (PWE) presented 2 cards of matches this last weekend at Jac's Lounge on San Pedro in conjunction with music shows. Thank you to several individuals for details of the events: Frances, Gabe, Tito & Roland all provided information.
On Friday, Bull Harley of the Hooligans faced Rumble, defeating him with the outside interference of partner Crazy Jimmy and manager Hustler. Tommy Gunn dropped the US Title to Ricky Rhodes. In the third match, the Hooligans returned to battle Rumble & Convict, once again coming out victorious. The Main Event was a Triple Threat Match for the PWE Heavyweight Championship. Champion Ryu faced the challenge of both Mad Dog Ken Johnson and Mojo. In the End Mad Dog not only won the Belt, but also was able to get 5 minutes in the ring with Hustler who had interfered in every match that evening. Following the card, the crowd was treated to a performance from Rick Sanford from Legs Diamond fame.
Saturday's matches started off with a rematch for the US Title with challenger Tommy Gunn and champion Ricky Rhodes fighting to a double disqualification. Cruiserweights Dragon X and Raiden of the Neon World Order battled next with the masked Dragon X taking the victory. In the third match, Tito Sanchez scored the pin on the unorthodox Ozzy Manson. The Hooligans - Crazy Jimmy and Bull Harley defeated the team of Berry (of the Neon World Order) and Mojo. Mad Dog Ken Johnson successfully defended his newly won PWE World Title against Ryu. In the Main Event Vega managed to pull out a victory over Virus.
Pro Wrestling Entertainment continues its tradition of providing wrestling action to accompany music events when it joins the Metal Fest at Graham Central Station on May 18th. The music is scheduled to start at 7 pm with the matches starting around 8 pm.
