SCW in Uvalde Results: New Champion!

Southern Championship Wrestling

Saturday January 26, 2008

Match # 1 - Dusty Wolfe (win) vs. "Big Daddy" Dick Dallas
Match # 2 - Spiro (win) vs. "Mad Dog" Ken Johnson
Match # 3 - Joey Spector vs. Don Juan Valenz (win)

Challengers Rory Fox & "One Man" Mike Dell vs. Champions The Big Time Playaz: Danny Matthews & Scott McKenzie (win & retain title)
Match # 6 - SCW Heavyweight Title Match
Chris Marval vs. "Solid Gold" Gregory Symonds (win & new champion)

Notes: At the beginning of the show, SCW Champion Ikaika came to the ring to make an announcement, but before he could reveal the nature of his announcement, Gregory Symonds interrupted. Before the champ could continue, Symonds attacked Ikaika, concentrating on his arm and shoulder. Eventually Symonds was pulled off the fallen Ikaika who was helped to the back.

After intermission, SCW General Manager Dusty Wolfe revealed that Ikaika would be unable to defend the belt due to serious injury, however there would be a title match as number one contender Gregory Symonds would face Chris Marval for the now vacant title.

During the main event, Chris Marval came very close to winning the belt, actually having Symonds pinned on more than one occasion, however two referees were knocked out during the match and Marval was unable to secure the 3 count. Finally, when Symonds recovered the momentum, he was able to revive original referee Alex Marrozos then cover Marval to become the new Southern Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.

600 fans filled Uvalde's Lone Star Saloon and were so raucous and enthusiastic that SCW was able to announce not one but two upcoming shows for Uvalde. SCW will return first on Sunday March 16th at a special 3PM start time. Next SCW will return on Saturday May 3rd. TWE "Heroes" Show Results & Notes

Texas Wrestling Entertainment
TWE Main Event Center
Wednesday January 23, 2008

Match # 1 - Ronnie the Red (win) vs. Rudy Boy Gonzalez
Match # 2 - Windwalker vs. Dynamite Danny Gee (win)
Match # 3 - TWE TV Title Match
Challenger Draven vs. Champion Brett Thunder
Match # 4 - Ronnie the Red (win) vs. Rudy Boy Gonzalez
Match # 5 - Main Event - TWE Tag Team Title Match
Challengers Don Juan Valenz & Joey Spector (win by DQ - no title change) vs. Champions The Texas Hit-Men: Skitzo & Big Dogg

Notes: For the last several weeks dating back into December, TWE "Heroes" has provided something every week that wrestling fans just don't want to miss. Tonight was no exception, as Hector Navarro was honored with his Texas Wrestling Academy Certificate of Completion. Navarro, who almost died due to severe complications from a staph infection was clearly moved by the ceremony and vowed to make his San Antonio in-ring return.

Last week, Ronnie the Red lost a disputed match which meant that he was supposed to leave TWE forever, but an overconfident RBG accepted a rematch challenge. When the bell rang, Ronnie quickly rolled up his distracted opponent. Rudy insisted that the two meet up again later in the show. When his time came Ronnie took advantage, winning for the second time in the night and prolonging his career.

In the Main Event, TWE Tag Team Champions The Texas Hitmen (Skitzo & Big Dogg) faced the team of Joey Spector & Don Juan Valenz. This was an exciting and enjoyable match which ended with the challengers being declared the winners due to a disqualification when Big Dogg accidentally ran into referee Rick Porter. Since titles do not change on disqualifications the issues between these two teams remain unresolved.

TWE will return next week with another edition of "Heroes" on Wednesday at the TWE Main Event Center. Check out www.texaswrestlingentertainment.com for TWE news and announcements.

Challenger Darin Childs vs. Champion Steve Amos (win & retain title)
Match # 10 - Main Event - ACW Heavyweight Title Match - No Time Limit
Challenger "Showtime" Scot Summers (win & new champion) vs. Champion Jerry Lynn

Notes: In the Texas Death Match, Rachel Summerlyn and Andy Dalton each pinned the other 3 times, but Dalton was unable to answer the ten count and continue the match following the sixth and final pin.

In the Hardcore title dog collar match, referee Mike Knoxville stopped the match and awarded the victory to Steve Amos when he determined that Childs was unable to continue. After the match, Amos & The Halloween Crew attempted to throw Childs of the balcony through a barb wire board set up 15 feet below. The plan backfired as Childs was able to fend off the attack and managed to hit an Ace Cutter on Black Rocker through the board. No word was given on the extent of the injuries to Black Rocker.

The No Time Limit match for the ACW Heavyweight Title ended at exactly 29 minutes when Jerry Lynn submitted to the rear naked choke by the new ACW Champion Scot Summers.

Upcoming ACW dates are pending at this time and announcements will be made soon. Visit www.anarchychampionshipwrestling.com for details and news.

Virus Retires! TWA Show Results & Notes

Match # 3 - Muneco Nexus vs. Nacho Libre (win)
Match # 4 - Virus vs. Dragon X (win)
Match # 5 - Main Event Tag Team Match
"The Sinful Society" Mr. Right & Hugo Strongman with Sin-Sational Sal & Gabe the Babe (win) vs. Cobra & Lemus II

Notes: The Texas Wrestling Association presented their monthly "American Style" wrestling show Friday night. The featured match of the evening marked the retirement from wrestling of Virus, also known as Black Viruz in Mexico. Virus is a veteran wrestler, trainer and promoter (Southern Thunder Pro Wrestling) who has worked primarily in San Antonio for several years and is one of the true gentlemen of the sport. Despite working mostly as a Heel or Rudo, Virus has always understood that the fans come to the matches to experience something special. He therefore has always made an effort to connect with the fans on a more than superficial level. For his final match, Virus elected to face one of his students, Dragon X. Virus chose TWA to host the match. The Texas Wrestling Association has run continuously 3 times a month for almost 2 years at the Texas Wolverine All-Star Gym with Lucha shows on the 2nd and 4th Fridays and "American" style shows on the 3rd Friday. Despite not being the largest promotion or even the most polished, TWA always performs before a large and enthusiastic crowd. Virus is largely responsible for much of their success. Virus is not leaving wrestling entirely as he is only retiring as a wrestler and still plans on continuing to work on the other aspects of the business. The San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene would like to wish Virus the best of luck in his future endeavors and looks forward to seeing him at wrestling shows throughout San Antonio in the coming months.

T-n-T Debut Show Results & Notes

Tough -N- Texas Wrestling
La Rancherita Nite Club
Thursday January 17, 2008

Match # 1 - Gabe The Babe vs. Mr. Muerte (win by submission)
Match # 2 - Renegade vs. Jaykus Plisken (win)
Match # 3 - Tag Team Match
The Houligans: Crazy Jimmy & Bull Harley vs. Mr. Prestigious & Cobra
Match # 4 - "Mr. Beautiful" Rudy Russo vs. El Latino (win)
Match # 5 - Main Event
Tito Sanchez vs. "New Style" Ben Galvan (no decision)

Notes: After defeating Mr. Beautiful in his scheduled match with a small package, El Latino was attacked by Mr. Muerte who was unable to effectively beat down Latino. Muerte then challenged Latino to a match at the next show. Latino accepted the challenge.

During the Main Event, The Houligans came to ringside and attempted to interfere in the match between Tito Sanchez and Ben Galvan. Eventually, the Houligans rushed the ring and attacked both men causing the match to be declared a double dq. Ben Galvan suggested that he and Tito put their differences aside and face the Aussies in a tag match. The match was set up for the next show. Tito Sanchez seemed surprised at the offer from Ben Galvan but accepted. Immediately after accepting, however, Sanchez clotheslined his future partner. The match will go on regardless of any animosity between Galvan & Sanchez.

The next show will be January 31st at La Rancherita as T-n-T Wrestling announced that they will present shows every other week on Thursdays at 7:30 PM. Arrive early as the show starts promptly on time. Visit www.myspace.com/tnt_210 for details and announcements.

Match # 4 - Big Dogg vs. Don Juan Valenz

Challenger Rory Fox vs. Champion Brett Thunder (win & retain title)

Notes: Tonight's show marked the surprising return to TWE of both Joey Spector and Don Juan Valenz as well as the TWE debut of "The Real Deal" Rory Fox.

Prior to the first match, Rudy Gonzalez announced that if his opponent Ronnie the Red could not pick up the win, Ronnie would be out of the TWE. At the finish, Rudy told the ref to count the pin even though Ronnie's shoulders were not down on the mat.

In the 4th match, Don Juan Valenz was disqualified when Joey Spector returned to the ring and attacked Valenz's opponent Big Dogg. Valenz & Spector continued to beat on Big Dogg until Skitzo rushed out to save his partner. Skitzo and Big Dogg, the current TWE Tag-Team Champions, challenged the team of Spector & Valenz to a title match at the next Heroes show next Wednesday.

In the main event, Challenger Rory Fox was defeated in a battle of Ohio natives. Fox, from Cincinnati was unsuccessful in his attempt to wrest the TV title away from Cleveland's Brett Thunder.

Vote For San Antonio's Top Wrestler

Vote for San Antonio’s Top Wrestler 2007

For the next 6 days The San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene is holding a fan vote to name the Top Wrestler in San Antonio for the Year 2007. To vote, Fans should send their lists of top wrestlers (with #1 being the top) to either bayou_926@hotmail.com or to www.myspace.com/bluehatguy . You may have as many wrestlers as you want on your list but please vote only for wrestlers who worked in San Antonio. The Scene is providing a list of 65 wrestlers that I can confirm worked 10 or more shows in Bexar County during the year. You can include other wrestlers on your list, but votes for wrestlers who did not work in San Antonio will not be counted. Duplicate submissions will be discarded, so do not vote more than once.

The Voting period will run from now until Sunday January 6th. The results will be announced shortly after that.
