Live play by play or commentary during matches of indy wrestling shows is one of the most annoying aspects of attending live events. I have attended hundreds of shows during the last 3 and a half years and can honestly say that I have never attended a GREAT Wrestling show that used live pbp. It interferes with the fan interactions with the wrestler. It insults the intelligence of the fans, the wrestlers and especially the referees who must not only be blind to miss what is going on behind them, but must also be deaf if they cannot hear the house mics. Live commentators rarely understand what is being planned for the future so they cannot focus on the proper aspects of the in-ring action. Additionally they often are just plain wrong, calling hip-tosses arm-drags and such. Let's face it, anyone expected to talk continuously for over two hours straight is going to say something stupid. When fans hear the same thing every show, they tend to lose interest at best and get truly annoyed at worst.

I strongly encourage all indy wrestling promotions to put an end to live Play-by-Play or Commentary during the matches at their shows. I ask that workers make the suggestion at the shows they work with live pbp and encourage fans to let their feelings be known. If simple suggestions do not work, I would not object to chants of "Turn The Mics Off!"

Please join me in this battle and let the promoters know... You want to enjoy the wrestling without the amplified voice of a Play-by-Play announcer interfering with the match.

Gabe the Babe NWA Texas Junior Champion

Congratulations go out to Gabe the Babe who recently became the first San Antonio native to win the NWA Texas Junior Title in the long and storied history of that title. The following report comes directly from www.nwa-sw.com


The outrageous Gabe "The Babe" Himeros of San Antonio, made good on his challenge against 3-time Texas Junior champion and second generation star Cody Jones on May 16, in a title match at NWA-SW / PWF Wrestleplex. The match went 16 minutes with Gabe taking the pinfall in controversial fashion with his"One Night Stand" - cut throat knee neck breaker move - in a ring corner. The ref counted 1-2-3, but Cody protested as many ringside fans that Jones got a leg on the bottom rope at the count of three. The ref did not see the alleged protest to reverse, and neither did the NWA-SW Commissioner Ken Taylor who was present but was in the back at the time and did not see the alleged protest to reverse the decision either.

Gabe also suffered a lower leg injury in the match taking a slam onto the runway platform and required crutches to leave the venue. He is scheduled to see his doctor Monday in San Antonio for X-Rays and further evaluation.
