ACW Show Dates Change

The San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene has learned that two upcoming dates for American Championship Wrestling have been changed. The show previously scheduled for August 13 has been moved to August 27. The show scheduled for September 3 has been moved to September 10. The reason for these moves are to facilitate talent. ACW should be commended for taking the steps to provide fans with the best possible wrestling entertainment. TWE and ACW Shows - News and Results

Terry Taylor at TWE Show

Texas Wrestling Entertainment and the Texas Wrestling Academy continued the practice of bringing in the best talent development and evaluators in the country to run clinics for wrestlers in the area when Terry Taylor led a clinic Saturday. Terry Taylor is the Talent Relations Director for TNA and was on hand to offer his years of experience and knowledge to wrestlers interested in improving their skills. After the clinic a show was presented and wrestlers were able to perform in front of Taylor and the numerous fans who came out despite the threat of severe weather.

The first match saw the return of Brett Anthony who had impressed at When World's Collide last month. Anthony faced San Antonio favorite El Latino in a hard hitting match. Both men showed off their skills in this match with some resounding chops and some skillful chain wrestling. In the end, El Latino came out with the win in a reversal of a pin attempt.

Match number two was a rematch from WWC as Vicki and Simply Luscious renewed their rivalry. While there are women wrestlers who look good in the ring and those who don't and there are women who can actually wrestle and those who cannot, Vicki and Simply Luscious both fall into the category of women wrestlers who look good and can wrestle very well. This match clearly demonstrated their talents. The fans appreciated the match and when Vicki scored the pinfall the fans applauded both wrestlers.

In the third match, Cowboy James Claxton faced Nikko who recently received a tryout with WWE. Both of these men were impressive in the ring and they interacted with the crowd well. The crowd responded by cheering both wrestlers and the truly hard hits these big men gave each other. Nikko eventually gained the pin over the Cowboy in a match that could have gone either way.

The next match was probably the best match of the night as well as being the biggest moment. When Don Juan made his entrance to face Windwalker, several fans in the crowd gave a standing ovation. The fact that Don Juan (who is a big part of RCW's success) was able to come and work for a TWE show demonstrates the respect that he has for the business, for the fans, for his fellow wrestlers and for his self. The entrance was spectacular and highlighted Don Juan's Charisma. Windwalker's response was equally entertaining. The match itself was extremely well fought. The pacing was fast and the action was solid. Windwalker seems fully recovered from the injuries that slowed him down earlier in the year and even though these two had never faced each other before they combined to present a match that made both look good. When Don Juan won, fans showed both wrestlers their appreciation, not only for a great match, but for its significance.

The next match was for the TWE Texas Tag Titles currently held by Skitzo and Hector Navarro. Before the match, Challenger Brett Thunder reminded the fans and the Champions of the circumstances that allowed Navarro to win the belt in a match that had originally featured the team of Skitzo and Thunder. When Thunder had been injured in a match against the Children of Pain, Hector had stepped in and took his place. Thunder has never forgiven them for this. The fans seemed to support Thunder in this and when his tag partner for the night Gator came out and started the action the fans erupted. Gator is another wrestler who put aside past incidents to take advantage of the opportunity offered by TWE to perform in front of Terry Taylor. Skitzo and Navarro, who are used to wrestling as fan favorites adjusted quickly to the reactions of the crowd. The match was exciting and well fought. The challengers put up a good fight, but the champs experience as a team worked in their favor. Quick tags and changes may have confused referee Rick Porter who refused to count a pin by Gator over Navarro because, he said, Navarro wasn't the legal man in the ring. Gator disagreed but while he and Thunder argued with Porter, the champs were able to get the roll up for the three count and the victory.

The next match was a battle of Rudys as Mr. Beautiful Rudy Russo faced the CEO Rudy Gonzalez. This match was surprisingly even as both men had difficulty gaining an advantage over the other. Tempers seemed to flair a bit as the two thwarted the other's offensive, as pin attempts were reversed it was Russo who came out with the win.

The final match of the night, the Main Event, saw Bigg Dogg in an unfamiliar roll as a fan favorite, but the crowd was clearly receptive to him in this roll and when his opponent Jacob Ladder came to the ring spouting racist statements, the crowd united even more behind the Bigg Dogg. Ladder seemed honestly surprised that fans didn't share his opinion of his opponent. When Ladder offered a stick of Right Guard to him, Bigg Dogg had heard enough and the fight was on. The two big men showed some strong power moves but the conflicting styles failed to mesh and neither was able to sustain any offense for long. The end of the match was rather confusing as Ladder took advantage of a moment when the referee was distracted, hitting Bigg Dogg with a low blow, then diving out of the ring. When Rick Porter turned to him, Ladder proclaimed that Bigg Dogg had thrown Ladder over the top rope. The Referee accepted Ladder's word on this and disqualified Bigg Dogg. The match was over. Afterwards Ladder verbally assailed Rudy Boy Gonzalez and TWE, proclaiming that the real wrestling promotion in San Antonio is ACW which is running a show Sunday. Ladder challenged RBG to come and face him there and see.

Announced at the show is the July 29th TWE show at Splashtown. December 3rd is the date set for the big Star Warz show featuring members of the TNA roster. The venue for this show is not yet set. Also the August Gym Wars show has been moved to Saturday the 20th to accommodate some very special talent with whom Rudy is negotiating. When details are announced on the TWE webpage www.texaswrestlingentertainment.com they will be revealed here as well. Just understand, make plans to attend this show.

TWE invades ACW

The American Championship Wrestling show at the Venue on Lexington on Sunday July 23rd was the scene of a very significant event in local wrestling as members of Texas Wrestling Entertainment invaded the show in response to a challenge issued last night by ACW champion Jacob Ladder at the TWE show.

The show began as Ring Announcer Jeff Houston introduced former Champion Prince Fontenot, who has been absent for several months following his losing the belt when Jacob Ladder burned Prince's face. Prince demanded a chance to face Ladder and regain the belt, but Ladder came out and stated that to get that chance, Prince would have to face and defeat Tito Sanchez and Showtime Summers in a triple threat match. If, and only if Prince is successful then next month, Ladder would grant a rematch. With that agreed to the show began, as Houston introduced the first match.

The TWE crew made their presence known early as they interrupted the very first match between Cobra and Dragon X. The two wrestlers in the match were several minutes into a match which was evenly contested. When the two both hit cross body blocks and were knocked to the mat, Referee Alex Marrozos began a ten count. Before Alex could reach 10 however, TWE Texas Tag Champions Skitzo and Hector Navarro hit the ring, pounding on on the two fallen wrestlers and throwing them from the ring. Then TWE CEO Rudy Boy Gonzalez entered and addressed the crowd. Several fans in the crowd cheered the TWE Team as they challenged ACW to put the Tag Titles on the line to show which was the dominant promotion. They called for Jacob Ladder to come out and answer them. Instead of Ladder, Self-proclaimed commissioner Rachel came out and told them that to get that match, RGB had to agree to face Jacob Ladder in the main event. Rudy quickly agreed to that.

As the TWE crew went to prepare, the next match was announced. The Texas Heavyweight Championship was on the line as champion Darin Childs, accompanied by Rachel faced the man who has been a thorn in his side for several months, One Man Mike Dell. These two former partners have faced each other several times with Dell winning by count out or DQ the last two times. Childs was anxious to show that he was able to defeat Dell. These two men fought hard in and out of the ring. As Dell began to gain an advantage, and possibly a pin, Rachel pulled the referee from the ring. She then entered the ring. Dell, who apparently has had enough of Rachel's interference supplexed her and then turned to find Darin Childs waiting. As Childs tried to finish him off, One Man Mike Dell slipped out and rolled Childs up for the pin, winning the match and becoming the new ACW Texas Champion.

The next match was an outstanding match-up between El Latino and Spiro. The two wrestlers showed incredible sportsmanship throughout the match. [Spiro can currently be seen on www.wwe.com/shows/webshows/heat/ in a Heat match taped when WWE was in town this week. Spiro and Bio-Hazard faced the team of Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch. Check it out] El Latino and Spiro demonstrated an incredible array of technical mat wrestling. When Spiro scored the pinfall with a reversal, the two men shook hands to the appreciation of the fans.

Following the intermission the Inter-promotional tag match was set. TWE Champions Skitzo and Hector Navarro were putting their belts up against the belts held by the ACW Champions. The question was who exactly holds the ACW belts? Last month the team of Martin Styles and Rudy Russo defeated Renegade who had been left alone when Johnny Rage no showed. Today Russo came out alone with both belts. Russo proclaimed that last month was part of an elaborate plan which now culminated in the team "Ultimate Chemistry": Rudy Russo and Johnny Rage. This new team looked impressive as they squared off for the first time against the team of Navarro and Skitzo who have been together through some incredible matches in the last several months. Even ACW announcer Jeff Houston called Navarro & Skitzo's table match victory over the Children of Pain, Darin Childs & Jacob Ladder, at TWE's When World Collide the probable "Match of the Year." (This is high praise coming from Houston who works for promotions all over the state.) Russo's new focus and Rage's confidence led them to a solid match against the TWE champs, but the teamwork of Navarro and Skitzo began to take control and it looked like they might gain the victory when the Children of Pain came out to the ring and attacked both teams resulting in a double disqualification. Both teams keep their belts

The next match was the triple threat match for the number one contender to the ACW Heavyweight Championship currently held by Jacob Ladder. None of the men in this match particularly like one another and it showed throughout. No alliances were formed as it was every man for himself. Each man took advantage but none could gain control for long. When the action spilled out of the ring Summer's head was opened up and the intensity for all the men increased even more. When Prince superplexed Summers, it was Sanchez however who grabbed the opportunity to make the pin. Tito Sanchez is the new number one contender to the ACW Heavyweight Title.

The main event was next as TWE Owner Rudy Boy Gonzalez had the opportunity to face Jacob Ladder for the ACW Heavyweight Championship. The Ringside announce team of Chris Jordan and Jeff Houston expressed concern over what it would mean if RBG could take the belt. Since they are employees of ACW, it is understandable that they both were hoping to see Ladder keep the belt in ACW. If Ladder was expecting an easy match from Rudy Boy Gonzalez, it turned out to be a huge misjudgment. RGB showed that his skills in the ring are still good enough to push the larger Ladder around. Inspired by the cheers of fans Rudy focused on Ladders left arm and punished him for much of the mat. Ladder is not a man to be taken lightly however. Both men pounded on the other and when the fight spilled out into the crowd it became almost surreal. At one point Rudy grabbed a Santa hat from a child ringside and placed it on Ladder's head. The sight of Jacob Ladder wearing a Santa hat while battling Rudy Boy Gonzalez will be one of the lasting images from this year in San Antonio Wrestling. The match returned to the ring and the two continued to show surprising agility and stamina. As the two bounced back and forth the referee was hit hard accidently and sent to the mat. What happened next surprised everyone in attendance. Prince Fontenot came out and speared RBG and quickly as he had appeared, disappeared to the back again. Apparently, Prince's hatred for Jacob Ladder was outweighed by his desire to keep the ACW belts out of the hands of Rudy Boy Gonzalez. When the ref regained his composure, he counted Jacob Ladder with the pin over RBG and the ACW belt was safe. As Rudy Boy Gonzalez stated to end the show... "This thing is far from over"

Mexican American Wrestling Show

MAW held a show tonight, Friday July 21st at the Sociedad Cruz Blanca and the card was packed with talent. Although I have missed the last 2 MAW shows, this was by far the best show I have seen of theirs yet. Several big names were involved as talent from throughout the State and Northern Mexico were in town. Every match on the card was good and the show progressed from match to match in an enjoyable fashion. Good work and kudos to all the people involved in making this show a success.

In the first match, Raiden faced off against J.J. Wakefield who received a cold reception from the crowd. The Referee Juan Diego clearly favored the rudos on this show and seemed more interested in taunting the crowd than in counting covers by the technicos or in reprimanding the rudos. This was fine with J.J. who took advantage of the favoritism to extract some measure of revenge on the partisan crowd. Raiden put in a gallant effort but was unable to overcome the slow counts by the ref or the underhanded tactics of Wakefield, It seemed inevitable by the end that J.J. Wakefield should leave with the victory.

The second match was a more traditional Lucha style match featuring technico Ave Fenix and rudo Mr. Muerte. This pair clearly knew each other and the moves and counters were fast and furious. More than once the action spilled out of the ring and into the crowd. Despite the solid action, referee Juan Diego once again played a part in the finish, ignoring a low blow by Muerte on Fenix, allowing Mr. Muerte to get the pin. After the match, the two argued for some time and it was agreed that at the next MAW show in 2 weeks, the pair would face off in the ring with no referee! This promises to be an exciting match.

The next match featured Berry in the role of Technico and newcomer Blakk Sabbath as the Rudo. The massive Blakk Sabbath dominated the cruiserweight Berry for most of the match eventually hitting him with a pounce and then "the Widowmaker" for the pin. It was an impressive debut for Sabbath.

The forth match was possibly the best match of a night filled with some very good matches. Jared Steele, who was in San Antonio last Monday appearing on WWE Raw, faced one of the most underrated wrestlers in the area, Virus. These two big men showed the crowd some heavy hits and some impressive moves and counter moves. The crowd was clearly behind Steele as Virus is one of those wrestlers fans seem to truly enjoy booing. Even the referee seemed to turn against Virus as the match went on, as Virus seemed to not appreciate any advantage Juan Diego tried to give him. In the end, Jared Steele scored the pin. Afterwards Steele celebrated by answering the crowds calls to chop the ref. Juan Diego is probably still feeling that chop.

Match number 5 was a featured tag team match with the local team of Renegade and Chief Batu facing the well traveled "Team Extreme"- Kit Carson and Chris Germany. As the referee checked Renegade and Batu for hidden objects, Team Extreme casually stowed a barb-wire wrapped baseball bat in their corner. Clearly this match was gonna be vicious and it was inevitable that someone was going to get hurt. That someone turned out to be Chief Batu who was injured in a tough spill outside the ring. Of course that baseball bat didn't help his condition. Left to face the opponents alone, Renegade put up a valiant effort, but it seemed in vain, until none other than Manny Villalobos appeared from the back to take Batu's spot in the corner. Team Extreme was so confident by this point that they not only accepted this change, they seemed to encourage it. These four men went at it tooth and nail, showing moves often reserved for cruiserweights. Just as it seemed the team of Villalobos and Renegade were taking control, Team Extreme crashed into the referee, earning them the disqualification. Germany and Carson argued that the contact was unintentional, but the referee had made his decision and awarded the match to Renegade and Villalobos.

The main event was a traditional Lucha Libre six-man tag team match. At first the technicos Universitario and Lemus 2 were introduced. When their opponents, Estrella Universal and Maverick came out, they brought with them a surprise. Their partner Globo Humano was a massive man, probably approaching 400 pounds. Not to be out done, the Technicos called out their partner, Gordo Lobo who easily had 50 pounds or more on Globo. These were two of the biggest men I have ever seen in a wrestling match! The rudos got off to a quick start in the first fall, heaping abuse on Universitario and on Lemus. The rapid offense paid off as the technicos soon found themselves down one fall to none. In the second fall, the match balanced out as all six men spent time in the ring and the technicos were able to reverse the momentum, gaining the second pinfall. The third and deciding fall saw action inside and outside the ring as the wrestlers exchanged double and triple team maneuvers. When the 2 big men faced off inside the ring it was groundshaking. As the Technicos were able to take advantage of a misstep by the Rudos, the third fall and the match went to the team of Lemus 2, Universitario and Gordo Lobo.

If MAW can continue on this success, fans of Lucha Libre should be looking forward to the next show at Sociedad Cruz Blanca in 2 weeks.

Mid-Week Report

Southern Thunder in Lytle

Last Sunday, July 16th, Southern Thunder Pro Wrestling held a card at The New Cattleman's Bar and Grill in Lytle Texas. STPW Commissioner Don ran the show with Ring Announcer Jeff Houston. The referee was Alex Marrozos. Although Heather Devine was announced to face Cherry Pie, Cherry had been injured in her last match so Heather came out and issued a challenge to "the biggest, meanest wrestler in the back." At this point Raiden came out to accept the challenge. Before anyone could point out the inherent irony, Commissioner Don set up the match for later that night.

In the first match, J.J. Wakefield and Vega hooked up, with both men showing their offense. The match went back and forth, with Vega gaining the victory in the end.

Afterwards, Commissioner Don interviewed El Latino who is set to face Dragon X for the light heavyweight championship in the main event. The interview was interrupted by Dragon X and the tag champions Blaine Steele and Zeke the Unique who proceeded to beat down Latino. Fortunately Tito Sanchez, Cobra and Virus came out to make the save.

The second match was the intergender match between Heather Devine and Raiden. To start the match, Raiden's antics seemed to confuse Devine, but eventually Heather's experience paid off and she took the victory.

Match three was a # 1 contender's match for the STPW heavyweight championship. Renegade and Cobra have both had recent matches against STPW Champion Johnny Rage and both were determined to get another chance. In the end, Renegade's size and strength determined the finish when he hit Cobra with a clothesline from hell.

After the intermission, Tag Champions Blaine Steele and Zeke the Unique faced the challenge of the Mexican Connection - Tito Sanchez and Virus. The rulebreaking champions seemed to be in trouble from the challengers who both are familiar with rulebreaking tactics. Eventually the champions had to resort to the use of a foreign object, but Referee Alex Marozzos caught them and was forced to disqualify the champions, giving the challengers the win, but not the titles. Commissioner Don immediately stepped in, fining the champs and setting up a no DQ match for the next STPW event (August 20th at the New Cattleman's Bar in Lytle.)

In the next match, fans were treated to a Lucha Libre match between Ave Fenix and Mr. Muerte. These are two of the best Luchadores currently working in the area and their match demonstrated many of the aspects that make Lucha Libre an entertaining style. Even when the match spilled out of the ring and Muerte took a hard spill the pair continued the match with Mr. Muerte overcoming the setback and taking the win. Afterwards the two celebrated together, showing the sportsmanship of the pair.

In the main event, El Latino returned to the ring, still showing signs of the beating he had received earlier. Cruiserweight Champion Dragon X came to the ring accompanied by Blaine Steele. Dragon X showed his new attitude of disrespect for the fans throughout the match and relied on several underhanded tactics and some outside help from Steele. At the height of the match, Dragon X pushed the Referee into the way of El Latino, knocking Marrozos hard to the mat. While The ref recovered, Steele attempted to help Dragon X, but that backfired and it appeared that Latino had the pin. Instead the referee chose to disqualify Dragon X for the deliberate move earlier. Latino won the match, but Dragon X remains the Cruiserweight Champion.

The next Southern Thunder Pro Wrestling Show is scheduled for August 20th at the New Cattleman's Bar along the frontage road of I-35 North in Lytle Texas.

Southwest Championship Wrestling, a name with historic roots in Texas Wrestling dating back to the late 40's, is holding a card of matches in Kenedy Texas next Saturday July 22nd at the Hollywood Arena. As seen on the premiere episode "RCW on KCWX", The Texas Treats defeated The Nerdy Boys to become the RCW Tag Team Champions. The Treats, ever-cocky, even mimicked The Nerdy Boys. After the victory, The Treats then threw down a challenge that Chris Marval and Don Juan would soon regret... "The Texas Treats will defend the titles any time, any place, any where, as long as there is a referee and the sound of a ring bell." The Shadow Alliance -- comprised of "80's Sensation" Joey Spector and Wally Darkmon -- took full advantage of this new stipulation, winning the Tag Team Championships in unorthodox fashion by pinning the Treats backstage at Tiffany's Billiards.

Then, on last week's episode of "RCW on KCWX," we saw how The Shadow Alliance granted The Treats a rematch, but The Nerdy Boys -- this time mimicking The Treats -- helped The Shadow Alliance retain the titles. But then came the unthinkable ... The Nerdy Boys, who were once loved but have been receiving a lot of "hate" as of late, were tired of being picked on and showed a new attitude, as Johnny Ender knocked out Spector with a chair and The Nerdy Boys attacked Darkmon. With the Tag Team Title scene heating up, all three teams will be in attendance on July 29.

7/16 At the 'When Worlds Collide' event, a match took place with Nikko vs Brett Anthony. The stipulation of that match was the winner getting a WWE try out on Sunday July 17 at Booker T's Wrestling School in Houston Texas. Nikko was the winner of that match and has been accepted for his try out. Pro Wrestling International Impresses

The newly revived PWI promotion which has a 13 year history in San Antonio held a show in the heart of the city at S.P.L.A.C.H. Sports Bar on 905 Nogalitos Saturday night, presenting a 7 match card featuring a good mix of veteran and young competitors. The roster includes cruiserweights as well as true heavyweights and features several wrestlers who are not regulars in any other local promotions.

Ring Announcer Jonathan Kramer introduced referee Terry Sleaze and called out the wrestlers for the first match. The team of Berry and Raiden, collectively known as the Neon World Order made their way through the crowd and to the ring, but were surprised to learn that they were not going to participate in a tag match this evening. Instead, they were scheduled in a singles match against each other. Despite the surprise, the two cruiserweights wasted no time in getting the action started. As is common when tag partners square off, these two were well familiar with each other so the parrying for advantage went back and forth for much of the match until Raiden was able to gain the final advantage and the victory. Afterwards, the pair shook hands and left the ring in the same manner in which they arrived; as a team.

In the second match, fans were treated to a continuation of the feud between local favorites Virus and Dragon X. Once again, the larger Virus showed his contempt for the young masked man from the orient, dominating for much of the match and begging for stronger competition. As Virus refused to seriously cover his opponent, Dragon X waited for his opportunity to make the arrogant Virus pay. However, when Dragon X began mounting his comeback, Virus became serious and halted the offense, quickly grabbing the pin.

At this point, Kramer introduced PWI owner Danny Vasquez who in turn introduced the new PWI commissioner Rick the Stick from "Jammin' 94.1 FM." Rick is probably the most vocal supporter of professional wrestling among San Antonio's main stream media and time will tell if his position helps PWI gain public awareness, but for the evening, he made an immediate affect. Vasquez made the mistake of giving Rick full control over the promotion to make any changes necessary to make PWI the best wrestling show in the city. Rick's first act as commissioner was to fire the owner, citing the work conditions and the pay inequity between Vasquez and the boys in the back. Outraged, Vasquez was unceremoniously sent on his way, and the show was set to continue. Before the next match could start however, the Hustler made his way to the ring offering his services to the commissioner as the new promoter. Rick did not give an answer to this offer, but show his disdain to the flamboyant manager by informing him that he would not be allowed to bring his custom cue stick "Suzy-Q" to ringside for his stable's matches.

The third match was set to begin as Blue Angel came out to challenge for the PWI US Title held by Ricky Rhodes accompanied to the ring by The Hustler who, despite the new commissioner's mandate, carried "Suzy-Q" with him. As the night began to fall and the skies darkened, Blue Angle and Ricky Rhodes faced off. Referee Terry Sleaze had his hands full with this match as The Hustler interjected himself in the match often on behalf of his man. Perhaps justly so the darkness that helped Rhodes for most of the match ended up costing him as he failed to see the belt tossed into the ring by his manager. Blue Angel took advantage of the moment of confusion slamming Rhodes head first onto the belt and winning the match and the US Championship.

The next match was a triple threat Lucha Libre match featuring Lemus 2, el Muerte and el Cristamo. The Rudos (Muerte and Cristamo) began by teaming up against Lemus 2, the only technico in the match, but the alliance did not last long as Muerte and Cristamo could not work together, much to the delight of Lemus 2. This was a very entertaining match which thrilled the crowd tremendously. Each man took the advantage at some point during the match, but it was Cristamo who gained the pinfall over Muerto. After the match, Lemus 2 and Muerte exchanged words until Muerte called for 5 minutes in the ring one on one with Lemus 2. Of course Lemus 2 agreed and the two got back into the ring. But with no referee, the conflict did not last even a minute as rulebreaker Muerte kicked Lemus 2 in the crotch, leaving the technico writhing in pain, setting up a probable match for the next PWI show on August 12th.

Match #5 was for the International Title and featured the Japanese wrestler The Great Ryu with The Hustler (and Suzy-Q) challenging for the belt held by Brazilian star Mojo. These two big men seemed evenly matched, exchanging an array of moves and strikes until Mojo brought a chair into the ring. In the confusion that followed, it appeared that The Hustler actually cost his own man the match as he distracted the referee at the wrong time, allowing Mojo to avoid a pin and reverse the momentum and keep his title by pinning Ryu. After the match Ryu was clearly upset with his manager, but eventually calmed down enough to accept his apologies, but one suspects that this might be a case of "forgive but don't forget."

The next match was for the PWI Heavyweight title held by "Mad Dog"who came to the ring with his friend Skunk. The challenger for this match was Dusty Wolfe who came to the ring with The Hustler (& Suzy-Q.) The action in the ring for this match was almost overshadowed by the action outside the ring as The Hustler and Skunk tore into one another for most of the match. The veterans in the ring battled viciously as well, with Dusty claiming that Mad Dog had a chain, but in the dark neither the referee nor the fans could see. At one point all four men were in the ring when Mad Dog punched the referee, knocking him to the mat. When the ref regained his composure he called for the bell, declaring a double disqualification. This battle is far from over however as all four men are set to match up in a tag match at the next show. (August 12 S.P.L.A.C.H. Sports Bar 905 Nogalitos 8PM bell time)

The main event was truly an outstanding match for the PWI Tag Titles. The challengers from Sydney Australia was the team of the Hooligans - Crazy Jimmy and Bull Harley. The champions were the team of Vega and J.J. Wakefield. The Hooligans are a big team with the type of ring presence that excites the fans such that while most were booing the rule breakers from down under, a significant portion of the crowd where cheering them. The champions are two of the best young wrestlers in the area, continuing to improve every match. Although the Hustler did accompany the Hooligans to the ring, he seemed content to be more of an observer in this match than in those earlier. The Hooligans controlled the pace for most of the match with their rulebreaking tactics. Both Champions showed impressive offense, but were eventually beaten down by the double-teams from the Hooligans. Eventually the more experienced team of the Hooligans prevailed and won the match along with the Tag Titles. Before they had time to celebrate, two men ran into the ring. Manny Villalobos and Bobby Garrett had seen enough. They challenged the new champions who refused to get back into the ring, preferring to wait until another day.

This was a good show which pleased the crowd. At least 3 matches are set for the show next month and fans have been assured that the lighting will be improved by August 12. Come check it out.

SA Indy Wrestling Scene Reporter Needed

Due to personal obligations, I will be out of town for the next two weekends and will be unable to report on two upcoming events. The first event is the Mexican American Wrestling (MAW) show on Friday, July 7 at the Sociedad Cruz Blanca 1619 W. Poplar. Bell time is 7 PM. These are fun and casual Lucha Libre style shows in an outdoor setting. It is a generally a family show so there are numerous kids enjoying the show.

The second show is the Pro Wrestling International (PWI) show on Saturday, July 15 at S.P.L.A.C.H. Sports Bar 905 Nogalitos. Bell time is 8 pm. I have not attended one of these shows so I can only tell you that this show uses wrestlers not normally affiliated with either TWE or RCW. If someone wishes to see some new faces in the ring, this show should be interesting.

Submissions to the Scene should include a basic match by match list with winners and stipulations. Additionally, an extended report would also be appreciated. I will only edit for spelling if I choose to use your report. You will receive full credit for the report. RCW Returns To Where It All Began

On Saturday July 1st, River City Wrestling held a show at the Hope of Glory Church aptly named "RCW Returns To Where It All Began." A little less than a year ago, RCW spearheaded the renewal of the local wrestling scene at the church, so it was fitting that Hope of Glory was honored by RCW and it fans in this way.

The six-match card started as usual when ring announcer Jeff Houston introduced RCW owner Brandon Oliver who led the count down to kick off the TV Taping. (RCW Rampage airs every week on KCWX UPN 2 Friday mornings at 12:30 AM) New TV Title Champion Andrew Dalton of the Hardbodies was the first wrestler out, followed shortly by referee Alex Marrozos. Dalton announced that before the first match, he would treat the crowd to a pose down with his opponent. When Fast Eddie Vegas and Mr. Yebisu came out to accept the challenge, Dalton seemed surprisingly optimistic about his prospects in the pose down. Imagine his surprise when the fans seemed to prefer Fast Eddie's physique to Andrew's "Hard Body." When the fight finally got underway, the two combatants treated the fans to an entertaining match and it seemed as though Dalton's reign as TV champion would be a short one. But a missed opportunity for Yebisu and Eddie backfired and Dalton was able to convince the referee that he had been the victim of an attack with the championship belt. Alex called for the bell, disqualifying Eddie and Andrew escaped with his belt.

After the first match, Jeff and Brandon returned. Introducing first Kat, the winner of the first ever RCW Diva Search. Kat had the honor of drawing the name of the RCW fans of the month - The 2 Crew. Congratulations T2C!

The second match featured the RCW debuts of two wrestlers. First out was Vega, who has appeared in matches for other local promotions. Vega's opponent Alcatraz came out next in shackles and the tell-tale orange clothing associated with prisoners. The two fought a hard hitting match, but when the action spilled out onto the floor, the violent nature of Alcatraz proved too much for Vega. When they rolled back into the ring, Alcatraz slapped on his "Lockdown" submission and Vega was forced to tap out.

In the third match, RCW's Bling King Quinten Allen was expecting to put on a "wrestling clinic" for the crowd, but when Ikaika came out, Allen expressed concern that Ikaika only knew power wrestling. In truth, Ikaika proved Quinten wrong, as the two were able to exchange quite a series of technical wrestling. Every move Quinten tried, Ikaika countered, and when the wrestling turned to power, Ikaika's advantage became apparent. It was fitting in this "wrestling Clinic" that Ikaika finished off Quinten Allen with a Samoan Drop followed by a variation of the Texas Cloverleaf submission. The Bling King had no choice but to tap.

Following an intermission, the crowd was treated to a match between Martin Styles and Masada. Both of these wrestlers impressed by demonstrating at first the ability to wrestle in a more traditional style than the Hard Core and High Risk styles for which the pair are each known. The crowd appreciated the expertise exhibited by the wrestlers, but when the action went to the floor, the crowd excitement rose through the roof. When Masada executed a piledriver on Styles atop 2 folded steel chairs and gained the pin, the crowd went wild for Masada. Then as Martin Styles was being helped to the back, a "thank you Styles" chant started from the crowd. Afterwards, this match was referred to as a "Match of the Year" candidate and many in the crowd whole-heartedly agreed.

The next match was for the RCW Tag Titles. Fans who had missed the recent broadcast of "RCW Rampage" were surprised to find out that the Texas Treats had won and lost the belts in one night eight days ago, beating the Nerdy Boys and losing the belts shortly there after when the Shadow Alliance of Joey Spector and Wally Darkmon surprised them by pinning them during a post match interview. The Texas Treats were determined to get their belts back against the new champions. With the support of the "Treats in Training" in the crowd, Don Juan and Chris Marval used every trick in their play book to seize an advantage over Darkmon and Spector, keeping Spector in the ring for most of the match as Darkmon struggled to control his emotions in repeated efforts to save his partner. The Champs staged a comeback but not for long. Just as The Treats seemed ready to execute their finisher, the familiar Texas Treats Theme music sounded. From out of the back appeared the Nerdy Boys dressed as "the Rice Krispie Treats." Distracted by this intrusion, the Treats found themselves on a sudden reversal of fortune and the Champions scored the pin. But the surprises were not to end here. When The Nerdy Boys turned on the champions, slamming them with chairs and knocking them out, the crowd was stunned.

In the main event, RCW Champion Hotstuff Hernandez faced the challenge of perhaps the most popular wrestler in RCW, One Man Mike Dell. Despite the crowd support, Dell faced an uphill battle against Hernandez, who had previously declared that the match was under "HCW Rules - Hotstuff Championship Wrestling" and was therefore not for the belt. Dell was not dissuaded and proceeded to offer the larger Hernandez everything the champ could handle. Hotstuff controlled much of the action and when referee Alex Marrozos was knocked out, both wrestlers had opportunities for the victory. As Hotstuff stretched his advantage over Dell, Ikaika ran in from the back and attacked Hernandez. Dell was able to grab the pin just as the referee regained his composure, counting the one-two-three. When Jeff Houston announced Dell "The Winner and New RCW Heavyweight Champion" the crowd exploded in excitement. Hernandez would have none of this though and called RCW President Brandon Oliver to the ring. This was not a championship match, Hernandez insisted and if Oliver did not give him back the belt, there would be hell to pay. Oliver did not agree though. The match was a championship match, but... since Ikaika had interfered on Dells behalf, Oliver had the authority as an official of RCW to overturn the decision, awarding the match and championship to Hernandez as a result of a disqualification. Everyone involved agreed that this situation was far from over.

The next two events for RCW have already been announced, with July 29th at the Hope of Glory Church and August 5 back at Tiffany Billiards for Breaking All Of The Rules II. BaoT2 will be a hardcore wrestling event and may not be suitable for all fans, especially the younger fans or those bothered by extreme action. End Of Month Notes

June was yet another banner month in San Antonio Independent Wrestling. Texas Wrestling Entertainment presented "When Worlds Collide," which is being hailed as an historic event. River City Wrestling debuted their new television program "RCW Rampage," kicking the show off with a fan party at Tiffany Billiards. Several titles changed hands. Fans of indy wrestling have much to be excited about.

TWE's super show, When Worlds Collide was supposed to feature a matchup between Milano Collection AT and Ring of Honor Champion Bryan Danielson, but when Milano was forced to withdraw due to a necessary surgery on his eye, Rudy Gonzalez pulled off a major coup, bringing in Christopher Daniels to fill the spot.

RCW held a TV title tournament resulting in Hardbody Andrew Dalton winning the new title. On the same card, The Texas Treats, Chris Marval and Don Juan defeated the Nerdy Boys for the RCW Tag Titles. When the RCW Rampage TV Show debuted a few days later, fans were surprised to find that the Treats' Title Reign lasted only an hour or so, with the team of Joey Spector and Wally Darkmon taking advantage of the Treats' brash vow to defend the belts against any team any time any where, "as long as there's a bell and a referee." Spector and Darkmon rounded up a referee and a bell and caught the Treats off guard. Congratulations Joey Spector and Wally Darkmon, RCW Tag Champions, and Andrew Dalton - RCW TV Champion.

In American Championship Wrestling, the team of Rudy Russo and Martin Styles took advantage of Johnny Rage's absence and bested the Texas Renegade in a two on one match for the ACW Tag Championship.

In the coming months, all the promotions in the area are promising to continue the outstanding efforts to provide San Antonio fans ever-improving wrestling shows.

Wrestlers of the Month for June

In the 6 months the San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene has been naming a wrestler of the month, rarely has the formula used so successfully presented a winner. Hector Navarro and Skitzo, the TWE Tag Champions out distanced all other wrestlers by an incredible margin. Not only did Skitzo and Navarro win what is being considered the best match of the month from San Antonio regulars, they appeared on 2 other shows, successfully defending their titles twice, as well as appearing in singles matches. There can be little doubt that Skitzo and Navarro truly deserve the title of "Wrestlers of the Month." Congratulations!

The Indywarz website www.indywarz.com and Stan Callahan's IndyWarz Radio www.indywarzradio.com announced the results of the mid-year edition of the Texas 100. This is a poll conducted twice yearly voted upon by fans, wrestlers, and wrestling insiders. Several San Antonio based wrestlers placed on the list thanks to an overwhelming response from the south Texas area. TWE has updated its web page www.texaswrestlingentertainment.com to include some significant news.

In a related development, a previously announced Gym Wars show has been rescheduled from July 9th to July 22 to coincide with the clinic. This show, which is open to the public will feature wrestlers from all over Texas who have traveled to take part in the clinic. The show and the clinic will take place at the Bellaire Baptist Church Gym at 116 Clovis. The doors will open to the public for the Gym Wars Show only at 7 PM.

Also from the web page in the TWE Newswire: "June 24th-Texas Wrestling Entertainment has been negotiating with TNA to bring in talent for future events, including a huge event labeled STAR WARZ slated for December. More information as it develops." Rudy alluded to this at the When Worlds Collide. Those who missed WWC should be put on notice not to make that mistake twice.

TWE Wet & Wild III

Texas Wrestling Entertainment returned to Splashtown Saturday in the third time this summer. An enthusiastic crowd was entertained by four matches from the TWE team. The event began when Referee Rick Porter came to the ring followed by the wrestlers for Match #1. Windwalker faced one half of the TWE Tag Champions Skitzo. The crowd immediately got behind Skitzo and whenever Windwalker took control of the match, the crowd helped inspire Skitzo to come back, eventually cheering him on to victory.

The second match pitted Cowboy James Claxton against Brett Thunder. The big Cowboy controlled much of the early part of the match until Thunder was able to focus in on Claxton's leg. Thunder inflicted a great deal of pain on Claxton before the Cowboy was able to reverse momentum and drop the big elbow on Thunder assuring the win.

In the third match, Rudy Boy Gonzalez joined in the fun, facing the other half of the TWE Tag Champions, Hector Navarro. The veteran Gonzalez controlled the pace of the action for much of the match, and it took everything Hector had to overcome the crafty Gonzalez, rolling him up in a small package for the win. After the match, Rudy refused to accept the ref's decision, questioning the fans to support his claim that he had gotten his shoulder up in time. Neither the fans nor referee Rick Porter saw things Rudy's way. When Rudy called Ring Guy Rob into the ring, he was surprised to find he couldn't intimidate the young man into supporting his claim. When Rob stood up to Gonzalez, the crowd just about went wild in approval.

The main event featured Bigg Dogg in an unfamiliar role as a fan favorite. His opponent Martin Styles alienated the crowd almost immediately and they showed no mercy in heckling him. Despite this, Styles managed to take control of the larger Bigg Dogg and scored some impressive moves in the match. Bigg Dogg fought back and appeared on the verge of taking the match over when Styles blocked a superplex, sending Bigg Dogg backward into the ring. Then with a frog splash on the stunned opponent, Styles seized the victory. At this point, the crowd almost rioted and Styles was lucky to escape unscathed.

RCW Report

River City Wrestling invaded Tiffany's Billiards once again Friday Night June 23rd with a marathon show lasting over 3 hours and packed with 10 exciting matches. There was a tournament to name a new TV champion, RCW's first Diva search, a couple of newsworthy announcements, a couple of imposter nerds, 2 of the best hardcore specialists in the world, and to top it off, A TITLE CHANGED HANDS!

The show began, as always, with ring announcer Jeff Houston introducing RCW president Brandon Oliver and the traditional count down to the TV taping. This time however, the taping had special meaning as RCW begins its weekly broadcast in less than 7 days, and tonight is set up around the tournament to name a TV Title Champion. Before the tournament could get underway, there was a little business that needed to be conducted, so Hotstuff Hernandez was called to the ring to explain his actions from the last show in which he turned on his partners and attacked Ikaika and the Nerdy Boys. Hernandez restated that he didn't have to explain himself to anyone and that there was really only room for one superstar in RCW. At this point Ikaika came out to confront Hernandez and it didn't take long before the situation exploded, requiring the rest of the lockerroom to keep the two big men separated.

When order was restored, Referee Alex Marrozos was introduced and the tournament began. The first match of the first round pitted Andrew Dalton of the Hardbodies against the laughing man Wally Darkmon. It was hard to decide which wrestler's behavior was more bizarre. In the end, Dalton managed to take the match and advance in the tournament.

Before the second match was announced , the familiar music of the Nerdy Boys began playing and from the curtain emerged.... the Nerdy Treats? Don Juan and Chris Marval had somehow stolen the Nerdy Boys ring gear and proceeded to mimic the Tag Champs in an uncanny performance. But if the Treats were wearing the Nerds' clothes, that meant that somewhere there was a pair of naked nerds! Sure enough, Kronie and Ender arrived wearing only their undergarments and championship belts. It was announced that the two teams would square off later that evening for the titles.

The TV tournament continued with a match between Homeless Hugh Rogue and One Man Mike Dell. Dell's popularity with the crowd continues to grow each show and he was clearly the favorite to take the entire tournament. Hugh Rogue had different plans however and the two squared off in a fierce battle. Dell seemed to be playing into Rogue's plan when he brought a chair into the ring, but it was Hugh who actually used the chair, costing himself the match due to a DQ. Dell had advanced, but would he be able to continue? After the match Rogue issued a challenge to Masada in what he called a match-up between Japanese Hard Core and American Hard Core. When Masada didn't come out, Rogue went looking for him.

For the third match in the tourny, members of the IPS came out. Accompanied by Commissioner Yebisu, Fast Eddie and Spiro announced that they were each ready to face whomever their respective opponents would be. In a move that apparently Eddie didn't see coming, it was announced that his opponent was to be... Spiro. Eddie at this point tried to convince Spiro to lay down and take the loss for the team, but Spiro has too much pride for that so the match was on. Despite his best efforts to convince Spiro to change his mind, Eddie was unable to get a 3 count until Commissioner Yebisu distracted Spiro and Eddie was able to get a roll up for the pin. After the match, the two shook hands but Eddie could help but celebrate the victory behind the back of the unsuspecting Spiro.

The final match of the first round was set between "80's Sensation" Joey Spector and The Smashing Machine. The match was an impressive one as the two exchanged maneuvers, revealing skills which many might not have been aware the two possessed. The mat wrestling exhibition continued until the larger Hawaiian was able to get a wicked submission hold on the young Spector who was forced to tap out. After the match, Joey expressed his respect for Ikaika and the two shook hands.

The next segment was a RCW Diva Search. Jeff Houston arrived with a stunning young lady and announced that the judge for the contest was none other than Ray the Voice. Ray selected several young ladies from the crowd to compete. The final decision was the original young lady who had accompanied Jeff to the ring. After the announcement, Andrew Dalton came back out and chased the ladies off, stating that he was the best looking person in the ring, and for some reason revealed his rather strange taste in personal undergarments.

The Semi-finals were next and Andrew Dalton was already to meet his next opponent. Mike Dell came out. Although clearly still suffering from the beating he took in the first match, Dell put up a tremendous fight and appeared ready to take the win when Dalton took advantage of a distracted referee and threw powder in Dell's eyes. Dalton took the victory and was in the finals.

Fast Eddie Vegas and Ikaika were the match up for the second semi-final and in a match that could easily have been a main event, the two locked up. The match ended when Ikaika further demonstrated his submission wrestling skills, forcing Eddie to tap out. Two matches, both by submission and Ikaika was into the finals to face Andrew Dalton.

Next on the card was a Heavyweight Title match between the challenger, "Bling King" Quinten Allen and champion Hotstuff Hernandez. Allen had called for this match since he had been left out of the tournament, but this was clearly a case of "be careful what you ask for." The Tex-Mex T-Rex Hernandez dominated this match up with Allen only getting in a few moments of offense, mostly on the outside of the ring, against the larger champion. In the end, Hotstuff took the victory in impressive fashion, leaving the Bling King to plan for another day.

The Tag Title Match was next. In the earlier segment, it was obvious that the Texas Treats had studied the Nerdy Boys' pre-match rituals and tendencies. During this match, it became even more clear that the Treats had also studied the Nerds' in match tendencies. After months of failures against the Nerds, the Treats finally had their number and when the smoke cleared, there were new RCW Tag Champions, The Texas Treats.

The Tournament Finals Match was next and although Ikaika would seem to be the overwhelming favorite against the smaller Dalton, the Hardbody had a plan. Andrew goaded Ikaika into accepting a "No Disqualification" Stipulation for the match. By accepting this stipulation, Ikaika had sealed his own fate as Hotstuff Hernandez was waiting in the back. When Ikaika seemed to have the match put away, Hernandez came out, and clobbered the big Hawaiian, slamming him hard to the mat. Hotstuff then dragged the weary Dalton on top of Ikaika, and the ref had no choice but to count 1-2-3. The new RCW TV Champion is Hardbody Andrew Dalton.

After the match, Ikaika laid out the ref and it appeared there would be an impromptu bonus match between Ikaika and Hotstuff but after exchanging a series of chops, Hernandez retreated to the back, never losing his arrogant swagger on the way.

The Main Event was next. Masada, who has been making his name in Japanese Hardcore Matches for the last few years was set to face Homeless Hugh Rogue, who prides himself on being a specialist in the American Hardcore match. This match was not for the faint of heart. A cross of light tubes was set up in the corner and everyone in attendance knew that sooner or later someone was going to crash into it. The two big men battle in and out of the ring, over the railing and into the crowd. By the time they got back into the ring, more than a dozen steel chairs were littered all over the mat. Describing the carnage would be futile. In the end, Masada was the one who went into the corner, exploding the light tubes in an enormous cloud of glass and powder. Despite this, it was Masada who took the victory with a flaming fist to Hugh Rogues face. Understand here, that the term "Flaming Fist" is a literal one and not some colorful name given to a finishing maneuver. Masada's hand was set on fire. All that could be said when this match was over was the chants of approval from the fans.

For those interested in this hardcore style of wrestling, RCW has announced that plans are in the works for a second "Breaking All Of The Rules" event soon. Also announced is that RCW will be holding a viewing party next week at Tiffanys for the Debut of RCW Rampage on UPN2 KCWX. The party will begin at 11PM Thursday Night, and the broadcast will start at 12:30 AM Friday Morning. Come out and be a part of RCW history.
