End Of Month Notes
Wrestlers and promotions are getting the message... "Step up or get left behind!" Some major talent is coming to the area in March and in the coming months. The fans are benefiting incredibly, but they are learning to recognize the differences in talent and in styles and as we learn more, we become more discriminating in our tastes. Over the last 2 years San Antonio has made massive strides in returning to its status as a wrestling town. 2007 promises to be very exciting for fans, as well as the wrestlers and promotions who are willing to accept the challenge.
It would be a conservative estimate to say at least 500 different people saw a local show in the last month. As more fans find out about the high quality of wrestling available, the idea of crowds of 600-800 fans at a single show doesn't seem out of the question.
It's exciting to be a fan.

champion "The Smashing Machine" Ikaika in a mandatory title defense against ... returning from Big Japan ... Masada!
Stipulation to be named
Plus ...
At Texas Explosion III, Team MEX member Sicodelico Jr. was deported after he captured the RCW Cyber Title, as was fellow-member Chris Marval. And, the Country of Caucasian Knights dismantled Don Juan, injuring his neck with a piledriver through a table. With tensions at an all-time high and the battlelines drawn, what will happen?
Plus, Joey "Super Shot" Spector and "Simply Luscious" Andy Dalton have shown a new side of their personalities since RCW Promoter Brandon "Bang Bang" Oliver became their manager. Now that Oliver has regained control over RCW (Commissioner Yebisu had control for four events after Team IPS defeated Team MEX at Rage in the Cage), what's in store for The Hardbodies?
There will be an update on "One Man" Mike Dell, who was busted open at the hands of a chairshot from Ikaika!

Challenger Darin Childs vs. Challenger Jacob Ladder (win & new champion) vs. Champion Enigma Skylar Skelley
Match # 6 - Main Event - ACW Heavyweight Title Match
Challenger Bio-Hazard vs. Champion Showtime Summers (win & retains title)
Notes: Prior to the first match, Enigma was presented the new Anarchy Hardcore Championship Belt which he had won February 10th. The battle royal to name a challenger for the Heavyweight title started immediately thereafter. Every 30 seconds a new wrestler joined the action. Wrestlers were eliminated by being thrown over the top rope in the following order: Enigma, Starr, "The Seguin Brawler," Skitzo, Brett Thunder, Ricky Rhodes, Windwalker, Bigg Dogg. This left Rexx Reed & Bio-Hazard who battled until Bio-Hazard pinned Reed.
The Hardcore Triple Threat was fought with elimination rules. Champion Enigma was eliminated in 3 seconds when Darin Childs hit him with a Chair just as the bell was being rung. Childs & Ladder then fought to determine the new champion. The match involved a thumbtack covered Kendo Stick, numerous mousetraps, steel chairs, barb wire, a staple gun, and a barb wire baseball bat. Enigma's "number 1 rat" Starr was heavily involved in the match and suffered for it after her man was eliminated. Ladder eventually won the match with a superplex onto the all the paraphernalia in the ring.
Anarchy Championship Wrestling returns to the Fiesta Ballroom in Seguin April 19th. ACW will head to the Grand Ballroom in Giddings on March 10. Anarchy Championship Wrestling has already announced several dates including top National and International Indy talent for the coming months. XCW Looking Toward San Antonio
XCW is looking to do a mini-tour of Texas to promote the upcoming Battlebox 8 on April 6! Cities on the slate include Houston and San Antonio. More information coming soon.
XCW is arguably the number one promotion in Texas. Opertating out of Denton, XCW has a nationally broadcast television show on Mav-TV (unavailable on Time-Warner cable)which can be viewed from www.mavtv.com. XCW runs weekly shows with monthly Video on Demand pay per views.
Many wrestlers familiar to San Antonio fans are a part of the XCW roster including XCW Tag Champions the Texas Treats, Hotstuff Hernandez, Necro Butcher, Masada, & Hugh Rogue. Check out www.xcwprowrestling.com for more names and information.
Battlebox is an annual special format tournament which goes beyond normal hard-core weapons matches and is one of the highlights of the year for North Texas wrestling fans. Any related tour from XCW is likely to be an exciting experience. Additionally, a trip to Denton on April 6 should be seriously considered.
The Scene is hopeful that the yet to be announced date does not interfere with any of the already announced shows scheduled for San Antonio in the coming weeks.

Local Wrestler in Accident Returning from Konnan Benefit
UPDATE:
Spector and his dad are both home and doing well just a few hours after the original post. Check out Spectors blog at www.myspace.com/spectorrules for the details of the accident. Considering the massive amount of travel put in by independent wrestlers going to and from shows it is remarkable that incidents like this do not happen more often. We look forward to seeing both Spector and his father at the next show.

***Editorial Note from The Scene: This card is stacked. This is as close to a "Best of Texas" Indy show ever attempted. At least 16 wrestlers who have worked in San Antonio during 2007 are featured. Additionally, this is an opportunity to see some of the other great talents in the state. With no shows announced locally in SA and a ticket price based on a minimum $8 donation to the Konnan Kidney operation fund, this seems to be well worth the drive.
Texas Treats at NWA-TNA
The Texas Treats at NWA-TNA
The Texas Treats were invited to this past Monday's TNA iMPACT television tapings. Congratulations to Don Juan and Chris Marval for this great opportunity.
Despite an injury to Don Juan, and Chris Marval also suffering setbacks, the team made their way out to Florida.
Be sure to look for The Texas Treats on SPIKE TV.

Ryan Davidson (win) vs. Windwalker vs. Ricky Rhodes with Gator
Match # 2 - Sicodelico Jr. (win) vs. Skitzo
Match # 3 - Death Match Gauntlet for Hardcore Title
(order of entry) Chuey Martinez with Sexy Stevi Koi, Hugh Rogue, El Lotus, Enigma Skylar Skelley with Starr (win and new ACW Hardcore Champion), Rachel Putski
Match # 4 - Tag Team Title Match
Champions The Children of Pain - Darin Childs & Jacob Ladder (win and retains title) vs. Challengers "Anarchist" Arik Cannon & Bio-Hazard
Match # 5 - Tag Team Match
Spiro & Brett Thunder with Justice Dunn (win) vs. The Dog Pound - Rexx Reed & Bigg Dogg
Match # 6 - Main Event - ACW Heavyweight Title Match
Champion Showtime Summers (win & retains title) vs. Challenger Nigel McGuinness
Notes: "One Man" Mike Dell was supposed to have been in the main event against Nigel McGuinness, however Dell had suffered a serious gash to his head in a match the previous night. Therefore, the main event was switched to an ACW Title match featuring McGuinness & Champion Showtime Summers. Dell wanted to wrestle but could not get medical clearance.
In the first match, Ricky Rhodes eliminated Windwalker first and then Ryan Davidson quickly eliminated Rhodes.
During the second match, Brett Thunder ran to the ring and interferred, leading to Skitzo being beaten. Skitzo suffered a cut to the head requiring 8 stitches in this match.
In the Hardcore Gauntlet Match, Rogue and Martinez started the match for the first 5 minutes and were joined by the other wrestlers at that point and every 2 minutes following. "American Nightmare" El Lotus was eliminated first. Chuey Martinez was eliminated second when Enigma leaped from the balcony onto Chuey who had been placed on a table by Rogue. Hugh Rogue was then eliminated by Enigma and Rachel who had to double team the hardcore specialist to pin him. Rachel was the last eliminated, leaving Enigma the first ever ACW Hardcore Champion. After the match, Rogue congratulated Enigma and shook his hand, as did Rachel. The match involved mousetraps, a 2x3 board, beer cans, scissors, a staple gun, a barb wire baseball bat, steel chairs, a trash can, barb wire wrapped boards, and a "Chucky" doll.
The Tag Title match ended when Darin Childs pinned Bio-Hazard, who was close to submitting Jacob Ladder with the "Pray for Death." Arik Cannon was unable to stop the pinfall.
The tag match between the Dog Pound and the team of Spiro & Brett Thunder had a somewhat controversial ending as Brett Thunder pinned Rexx Reed. Many in the crowd, as well as the Dog Pound insisted that Reed had kicked out at 2. The referee's decision however stood and Thunder & Spiro escaped with the victory.
In the Main Event, Summers & McGuinness battled for almost 30 minutes until McGuinness introduced a foreign object, but was unable to use it. Mike Dell then interfered, hitting McGuinness with the object which lead to the eventual pin by Summers.
The next ACW show will be in Seguin on February 22nd, followed by Claudio VS. Quackenbush show on March 11th back at the Venue in San Antonio. Check out the ACW webpage for more details. www.anarchychampionshipwrestling.com

Match # 6 - Triple Threat Match for Cyber Title

Match # 7 - Main Event - Tag Title Match
Country of Caucasian Knights - Scott McKenzie & Messiah w/ Miss Laura, Mike Foxx & B.J. Turner vs. LAX - Homicide & Hernandez (no decision)
Notes: Prior to the first match, Hardbody Andrew Dalton attempted to make an alliance with the Country of Caucasian Knights, however after his loss to Aguila Negro, the CoCK beat down both competitors.
Following the second match, Messiah piledrived Don Juan through the timekeepers table. Don Juan appeared to suffer a serious neck injury and was carried to the back lockerroom area.
During the third match, LaMotta was distracted by the music of his former team, the hardbodies, allowing Rory Fox to score the pin.
Following the fourth match, the CoCK attempted to attack Chris Marval who escaped through the crowd.
In the Fan Lumberjack Strap Battle Royal, Chris Marval was the first competitor eliminated when he was arrested by the INS for an expired green card. The other wrestlers were eliminated in the following order: J.T. LaMotta, Rory Fox, Aguila Negro, Danny Matthews, Andrew Dalton, Brandon Oliver, Mr. Yebisu, Quinten Allen (eliminated by a run-in from Rory Fox) and Joey Spector. By winning, Franco D'Angelo earned a title shot at any RCW title at any future show.
Mike Dell suffered a serious gash to the head during the Triple Threat Match when he was hit in the head with a chair by Ikaika. Ikaika showed no interest in covering Dell for the pin, instead allowing Sicodelico Jr. to gain the victory and the Cyber Title. After the match, Sicodelico Jr. was also arrested by the INS while the CoCK celebrated.
The Main Event ended in controversial fashion after lead referee Alex Marrozos had been knocked out. Junior ref, Biff Hardwell came to the ring to continue the match. The end came as Messiah pinned Hernandez (pin counted by Biff) simultaneously with Homicide pinning McKenzie (pin counted by Alex.) The match was subsequently declared a draw. Afterwards the LAX cleared the ring except for the unfortunate Miss Laura who was tossed across the ring by Hernandez. Homicide was clearly upset at the end and made it clear that he intends that the results will be different "Next Time"
The next RCW show will be March 10th at the Bellaire Baptist Church Gym. Check the official RCW web page for details. www.rcw-wrestling.com

Virus wins America's Championship
Austin promotion QFC has posted on its web page www.questforchampions.org the news that San Antonio wrestler Virus has won their America's Title from former champion Shingo. This was a match that one had to see to believe. Both Virus and Shingo will be wrestling at the Southern Thunder Pro Wrestling show in Schertz on Sunday February 25th.
Local Luchadore Speaks Out!
Following the comments made here in the San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene concerning promotions using under-trained wrestlers and backyarders to fill out shows, Lemus II has added his thoughts on the subject. Lemus II has always been an outspoken individual concerning the business of wrestling in general. Check his monthly report out as it contains many interesting points. www.lemusdos.com is the site.
Do not however confuse The Texas Wrestling Academy with the Texas Wrestling Association held at the Texas Wolverine All-Star Gym. The Academy is owned and run by Rudy Boy Gonzalez of Texas Wrestling Entertainment and has graduated many excellent wrestlers working, not only locally. The Association is a relatively new promotion which runs Lucha Libre shows as well as playing host to the American style wrestlers from Southern Heat Championship Wrestling. The Association and the Gym are not affiliated in any way with The Texas Wrestling Academy, Texas Wrestling Entertainment or Rudy Boy Gonzalez.

Match # 7 - Main Event - TWE Tag Tean Title No-DQ Deathmatch
Challengers The Dog Pound: Bigg Dogg & Rexx Reed vs. Champions The Children of Pain: Darin Childs & Jacob Ladder w/ Rachel & Skylar Skelley (win & retains title)
Notes: The announced Main Event involving TNA X Division Champion Chris Sabin did not happen as Sabin was occupied elsewhere, however very few, if any, fans took the offered refund. TWE CEO RBG announced that TNA president Dixie Carter has promised, a first-time ever in Texas X Division Championship Match for TWE's next show in March.
In the Triple Threat Match, "Mr. Beautiful" Rudy Russo scored the victory with a pin on Aaron Eagle using a handful of tights for leverage. After the match, Russo stole Robert Evans' feather boa.
In the TV Title match, Referee Rick Porter was knocked out, which allowed the Children of Pain to run in and beat down Skitzo and place Thunder on top for the eventual pin.
The Main Event involved light tubes, a staple gun, a fork, a barb-wire baseball bat, and two boards covered barb-wire. It ended when Childs pinned Reed while both were tangled in barb wire. The CoP continued beating on the Dog Pound until Skitzo came out to attempt the save. Childs and Ladder quickly regained the upper hand until Hector Navarro appeared and beat back the pair with his cane. The CoP and the crowd were stunned by this surprise as this was the first appearance of Navarro since a staph infection put him in the hospital for weeks back in September. The fan's chant of "Hector" ended the show on a clearly moving moment.
Details on the March TWE show will be published first at www.texaswrestlingentertainment.com
